Description
Written almost entirely in Japan, interestingly enough. Not sure if that made any significant change in my writing. I do know now, though, that I really want to see Bethany and Marian Hawke in yukatas. More notes at the end. Enjoy!
Some notes:
1) Leliana's hoodie is a programming joke, which I've got sumenya to thank for. It's read "hip hip array".
2) I'm probably expanding the urgency of the rifts here a bit from the game, where they never felt like a real threat. In a modern setting, they'd probably be a bit more dangerous due to how interconnected and volatile our civilisation is, and I'm still upping the number of rifts. Bethany better get to work soon, eh?
3) As I've stated before, I'm using the unit thaum with the appropriate SI prefixes to measure mana and magical energy. Assume that 1 MP in game = 1 kT here. I'm not entirely sure on the proportions of the Vyrantium bomb -- Fat Man and Little Boy, the atomic bombs detonated over Nagasaki and Hiroshima, had a blast yield of 21 respectively 15 kilotons (kt). By contrast, the experimental Tsar Bomba -- to this date the most destructive device constructed by man -- had a theoretical maximum blast yield of 100 megatons, which is a LOT more. Thaumic weapons underwent similar developments as far as their blast yield or explosive force is concerned, but retained a fairly constant magical energy. No one likes marching into a bombed city to discover you've grown an additional toe, your mate's skin gone green and things are falling in the wrong direction. I'd like your thoughts on this.

Poor Bethany. It's not easy, being the Herald. I'm glad she at least has Varric, and tea, of course.
And that ending!! I want so much more of Calpernia. Especially in front of cameras.

Not to mention a whole inquisition! If not for the rifts, most of the job would be paperwork. Thankfully, Bethany doesn't have to deal with that.
Yesh! Totally. She'll run a good campaign.

Now that I haven't read before.
Hmm it just struck me that I haven't read a fic where all three Hawke siblings survive to go to Kirkwall or at the very least Mage Hawke (either gender) and Bethany....

I think there's quite a few of those on FF.net and AO3. There's also at least one which has Hawke as the Warden, Carver as the Champion and Bethany as the Inquisitor, though it's ... frankly a bit disappointing.
Anyhow, I hope you're liking this fic so far

Now I'm curious, anything in particular that struck you as different?

Just the more advanced technology. Not a criticism or anything, just not what I'm used to given that it's Dragon Age.
Love Hawkecest however, then again I'm a sucker for any kind of well written cest pairings. Robb/Sansa is one of my favourites

Ah, I see. If you're interested, the appendix on my first fic in this Verse, "Born Free and Everywhere in Chains", has a brief history of Thedas for the last four centuries or so to explain the divergence.
Oh I hadn't even considered that! I'm committed to Cersei / Jaime myself

Hmm like Cersei and Jamie myself, sure Cersei is a bitch and all and gets worse over time but she was a nicer person once and two factors largely contribute to how she turned out by the first book. Robert the drunkard husband with all his flaws and how he treated her and of course that blasted prophesy.
Also will check it out

I do consider her a tragic character and a bit of a woobie. Her relationship with Jaime is pretty abusive, tbh, but that makes it all the more interesting.
That's pretty good, and pretty damn depressing! I'm not a fan of Robb, normally, but I love this.

I might have another look tomorrow! I don't really have much patience for reading fanfic these days, but I can always make an exception for glorious wincest!

Hmm in that case you might find my (admittedly very incomplete) Dawnverse interesting then since the ruling Eosopoulou dynasty I create for it goes even further then the Targs .
Imagine the Targaryens mixed with Code Geass as one of my friends termed them.

Oh, fun. I remember once setting up a divine_blood=true dynasty in CK2 and letting it run on the AI for 600 years, by the end of it, not even a quarter of members were Inbred. I'm sure your dynasty can top that though

Heh I think I called that dynasty "Inkestos" -- gave them Byzantium to govern since I reckoned they'd be least likely to die out there. I still had to help with the console here and there. Gee, I should play that game again :'D

With the release of the Horse Lords the games had some pretty major performance overhauls and proper Nomadic tribes and such.

Yeah, I've been reading the dev diaries -- though the last time I played was when they added India. After 500 hours logged on Steam, it's getting a bit tiresome. If only The Prince and the Thane mod was still in development

Lux Invicta is pretty good as is the AGOT mod and H.I.P

I've played Lux Invicta and AGOT, though the HIP was after my time. I used to be involved with the dev team for Prince and the Thane, though the mod wasn't even updated for The Republic, unfortunately. It mostly focused on historical immersion, including a hugely sanitised CoA generator and tons of new events and features. I don't think it would have worked for Old Gods and anything after, though, as it was heavily inspired by the troubadour culture of the Occitan later middle ages.
