I jumped into the bandwagon and made an influence map. XD Now, this was VERY hard to make, actually, sorting through who or what I wanted to put in... There's so much more I could put in because I think that in general, just being alive is inspiration enough. But I don't think that's what the point of this thing is, so I chose some things I think influenced me. I numbered it off randomly but I'll tell you what each number is.:1. Tezuka Osamu: He was my IDOL when I was in middle school. In a lot of ways, he still is my idol because of the immense dedication he had to his work and all that he has achieved. He still influences the way I look at a lot of things, especially at drawings. His drawings are never complex and yet, when one reads his comics, they can understand that this man was a talented artist! The details he put into the backgrounds were breathtaking in some scenes and the way he did each page was an artwork by itself! I could honestly go on and on about this guy.
2. Evangelion: This is a funny inspiration because I have never finished watching the anime! Nor do I really know a thing about it, however, it was influenced my decision to be an artist from when I was about 3 years old. I remember seeing this on TV when I was about 3 years old or so in Taiwan. It was in Japanese with Chinese subtitles so I did not understand anything that was going on and for the longest time, I was half-convinced that Shinji was a girl only because of those things in his hair when he was in his Eva! But I remember seeing it when I was little and I knew then that I wanted to draw something as good as that one day. I still even remembered the tune to the main opening from when I was little and re-heard it -several- years later.
3. Sakan-san: She has a dA account here ( ). I used to always look at her stuff and I was in love with how lively, cartoony, and cute she drew everything. Yet at the same time, she could also draw something more gritty, dark, and serious. She is immensely talented and she is able to express her artistic abilities in so many ways. There are so many styles that she has used yet I can always tell it's her work just because of the energy I always see in her work!
4. Fashion Illustrations: I love looking at fashion illustrations a lot because I've found that even though that some sketches may have some "unattainable ideal of beauty", I absolutely love the form, energy, and grace that I see in most fashion illustrations. And there are so many ways people do them, too. I've seen highly sketchy ones, cartoony ones, and just plain abstract looking ones. In the end they're always pleasing to look at and they give me the energy to draw whenever I feel like I got nothing in mind to draw.
5. Adam Hughes: I love the way he draws women. They're so beautiful and full-figured to me. Idealized figures, yes, however, I still love the way they look. They look realistic yet at the same time, they're not even close to it! Also, his marker works have such a simple feel to them and yet I find it so hard to be able to accomplish whatever he has been able to accomplish all the time.
6. Marilyn Monroe: The most gorgeous woman to have ever existed, in my opinion. She's voluptuous, graceful, and beautiful. At the top of my head when I think of beautiful women, Marilyn Monroe is at the absolute top of my list. I love looking through photos of her, even.
7. Paul Cesar Helleu: A lot of his drawings have a sketchy feel to them, but they portray such a feeling of grace of that of a woman that I find myself just staring at works of his. The face is always the most detailed part in his sketches, then the rest of the drawing are a bunch of pencil (or whatever medium it was) strokes. Anyone seeing the tendency of me liking female figures?
8. Glen Keane: He's an animator who works for Disney. I always love looking at his sketches because the movements feel so lifelike even though the figure itself is just a bunch of big, sketchy lines. His work in Pocahontas was absolutely breathtaking, especially the story boards I saw.
9. Fred Moore: Again, me and my obsession with the female figure! He drew lots and lots of beautiful looking girls. He is a VERY famous artist in animation history, he worked on a lot of old Disney films. I always loved the simpleness of the girls he drew because they were beautiful through their simplistic designs.
10. Drawings of Victorian Era Women: Yes, specifically the women, though I have looked at ones featuring men from time to time. I always liked the ladylike quality that was in the forms and the dresses everywhere made it feel like an oldern fashion illustration. I like to look through those drawings and observe the big, poofy dresses. The women also have such a plump form in some areas, despite the overly thin waist. But that's another plus for me because it just feels so much more ladylike and gentle to me.
11. John Lennon: I like music, music has always inspired me when I'm coming up with a mood for a drawing or just need an idea in general. John Lennon is put there because I just love his stuff! Hahaha. Music I could go on about for a while, I listen to everything from rap to classical to pop.
And there's a lot of other stuff I could put down, too. But I think I'll just leave this as it... XD And if anyone wants to know what gave me the idea to become an artist it's actually more than just Evangelion, though that played an enormous part in my decision to become one.
I started drawing around the time when I was started watch Pokemon. I was so obsessed with it that I drew pokemon all the time! Except I was horrible at it, so I drew other things, too. Like women and girls. (I just love drawing girls more than guys for some reason...) I also remember drawing countless amounts of digimon and failing at that more than the pokemon I tried to draw!
When I was about 7 or 8 years old, I started spending a big load of my childhood in front of the TV because I didn't go out to play with anyone, ever, when I was little. I always loved watching cartoons, even if they were boring, just because I loved cartoons! When I was 8, I started telling everyone that I wanted to be a "cartoonist" and make cartoons all day for a living! And... it's still true today. And because I've wanted the same thing for so long, I've always personally found it strange up until a few years ago when people comment that they have -no- idea what they're going to do when they grow up. XD
And that's me~ Sorry for the LONG stuff I wrote. Sorry about that, I hope I don't do that more often in the future. Ich...
