The sad truth is Germany's history gave all Germans a bad name... Which is why today... I do not speak German.
My Grandfather came to Canada right before the secound World War, or maybe while it was happening (I doubt)
He had to change our name to make it look like an "English" name, so he wouldn't get put in prison (Lots of the Canadian Germans were put in prison, because they thought they could be "Spys" for the Germans.
He also changed it so he could get work, work at a good paying job.
He never ever taught his kids German, because it being somewear in the 1940's he told them "It's not a good time to be German."
I've never met him, well not that I remember I think I was only a year when he passed away...
But! I am very proud that I'm German!

Germany is my favorite country... so artistic and the people there seem so disciplined and creative! I wish I lived in Germany. I feel ashamed to be an American.

Sounds like a good idea. My sister is going to Berlin after she learns the language, but my parents are concerned that no one will hire her for a job.

She is 20 and she is pretty flexible concerning what job, but she especially loves art and writing... I'm not sure if she could be writer because she has a basic German vocabulary.
