[Gold Pilot ]

Akuto feels much freer after the events that transpired several months ago, but as the summer dawns, some of it comes back to haunt her. Though she has largely moved past it, memories of her attempt are unavoidable. Had she succeeded, everything would have ended in an instant, permanently. Never again to feel the rush of the hunt, of battle. Never again could she have embraced the scents of the forest, or the breezes of the open plains. No more chance at moving on past the hardships of her childhood. She would never have known the feeling of liberation she'd now befriended.

Akuto's heart ached deeply for a moment, the regret of her mistake washing over her. Something akin to guilt lay at the base of it; intense shame. But as she sank into its depths, a gentle voice - a feeling - nudged it away, placing the sensation of hope back in her heart. Like a loving reminder that the past was the past, and what was done cannot be undone. Akuto looked down from the sky, expression quiet and softly mournful. Her face softened, and she inhaled deeply, the light once again reignited within. The distant twittering of birds preparing for night welcomed her back.

The silver she-wolf shook herself, pelt catching a glint of the dying light and shimmering. She stood and trotted down the hill to find a resting place as the sun gave its goodbye, and the luminous moon and stars lit up the night.

She was glad to be alive.

I wanted to revisit Akuto's first theme song and this happened haha Also, ever since I completed the original comics and art, I felt like maybe Akuto's "renaissance" was maybe a little too abrupt to be completely realistic? I'm not sure, someone else could probably debate me on that haha. Everyone's experiences are different and I won't claim to be an expert on the psychology of the kind of situation she was in. But either way...this is a way for me to go a little more in-depth into what I imagine in was like for her, even several months after her attempt.

(For those unfamiliar with the events referenced here, Akuto attempted suicide by leaping off a cliff. Obviously she survived, but also came out of the experience with a different perspective on things.)

SunriseA small river trickles through the base of a rocky gorge, the water lapping and waving against the sandy shore. It is the dead of night, with a full moon, and not a creature stirs. All is silent, and the darkness is heavy. Soon, though, a figure appears in the moonlight, walking down the ravine. It is unaccompanied. However, in a moment, it stops - pausing in front of a matted form, beaten and tattered from the river and its rocks. To some, it almost seems confused for a moment, but its expression is impossible to read. Then, in a calm voice, it speaks.
"Ah...this is new." The soft brown wolf with a tan belly leans down to sniff at the gray-and-black, soggy pelt that has washed up on the side of the stream. "Now what have we here....?"
