Ok. So I know this may seem like a totally random ship to most people.But I have become OBSESSED with it. Mainly because it takes two characters I really liked, but not with their canon/really popular pairings. (Maiko, Jetara, Zuko/Jet or Mai/Azula/Ty Lee slash)
However, I think THEY would be PERFECT together. Like seriously. Mai's sarcastic dullness coupled with her fighting skills and need for affection combined with Jet's free spirit, rugged/flirtatious nature, and wild life...yeah. Seriously, I wish they could have been together, especially because I like Mai a lot...just not with Zuko. Imo they don't bring out the best in each other.
So just a quick little paint I threw together. Expect MOAR.

Same here, the only pairing I ever thought of that included Mai was Maiko, and I did not like that pairing. (Inside my head: Why did it have to happen, WHY???

Yeah. I think that may have been the only ATLA pairing I really HATED. I mean, Kataang was cute and Zutara was my otp and all the other ships were kind of give or take, but Maiko just didn't seem to fit. At all. 
He totally should have been.

Definitely, it did not. Like you said, with every other ship on that show, I could see it happening. I literally shipped everything. But when it came to Maiko, that was the ONLY one that I could not make myself like...and it happened.
