Let's see-- Sentinel had his arm around her waist, they walked together every time they were in the same scene, Sentinel was the one willing to throw himself into the fiery pit to save her and was the most heartbroken at her death. He's arrogant, yes, but his characterization is not without cause-- he acts that way for a reason, and it's not just to be a douche.

Considering that everyone shits all over Sentinel for not kissing Optimus' ass but no one ever stops to wonder why, can you blame me?

I do wonder why! Maybe because he's jealous? Or just ambitious and he considers Optimus as aΒ threat to his future in the elite guard ? Or angry at him because he doesn't really know what happened to Elita-One and blame Optimus unfairly? Personally I don't know, this character is hard to defined with precision. Sometimes his nice, sometimes a jerk... Or just to proud to admit he has been wrong. There's plenty of wonder about Sentinel Prime.

As I said, Sentinel and Elita had a pretty clear thing going on. When Elita fell into the blazing inferno, Sentinel was fully prepared, willing fact, to risk his life to save her, but Optimus stopped him. Sentinel feels like he should have been able to save her, and a huge part of him resent Optimus for that. In the present day, whenever he looks at Optimus, he's reminded of losing Elita, and it hurts like hell. It's not a career thing; it's an emotional thing.
I think one of the people I watch and who I'm sorta friends with, *Atlas-White , described it best-- Everyone in TFA has a very straightforward personality, with the exception of Sentinel Prime. He's flawed, yes, but that makes him multifaceted, and his flaws give him room to grow, which is the mark of an incredibly well-done character.

I must agree. In TFA, Optimus and Elita were not a couple. Sentinel was more likely to be her boyfriend. Now I admit in G1, Optimus and Elita were wonderful together, but G1 and TFA are two different series. While I do feel bad for Optimus that his love was one sided, that's just the way the writers decided to do things.

If you watch "Along Came a Spider" with an open mind and a good set of observation skills, you can really pick up on the Sentinel x Elita bits. I think the reason people ship Prime and Blackrachnia is pulling that influence from G1, much like Prowl x Jazz and Thundercracker x Skywarp. Ship what you will and all that, but bear in mind these are, as you stated, two totally different series. I often ask myself if the staff-- animators, writers, the whole deal-- dropped the Sentinel x Elita hints on purpose. xP

Me too and personally, it's a refreshing change to see an Optimus who does wrong. I'm not saying he's a bad character. I'm just saying that the fact that TFA Optimus is far from perfect is proof of how different the writers were going for.

He isn't a bad character; he just has flaws. All of the characters have flaws, which gives them a more human nature-- which was one of the goals of Animated to begin with.
