Do you think Reimu would let Marisa become a youkai? Marisa could probably kick her arse if the transformation made her strong enough, but then she'd have to uphold the balance of Gensokyo herself, and it would be a lot more than she bargained for.

If we're getting legalistically literal here, it's only humans of the village becoming youkai that's the "greatest crime," and one could reason that Marisa isn't "of" the village because she lives alone. However, getting more in the spirit of your question, Reimu'd probably discourage Marisa from "giving up her humanity." She wouldn't kill her, though; I'm fairly certain that Reimu needs Marisa on an emotional level.

A world where everyone is (best case Hourai) immortal brings a lot of questions about the society it creates, and in turn the quality of friendship people will have with each other. Friends would be together forever, but whether it would be a friendship based on prospering or struggling together is based on the society. I'm still not sure how I feel about it.
