Personality:
Typical of his Blackwood heritage Anubis is a dark, and brooding stag. He's quick to temper and even quicker to spill blood. Unlike the rest of his kind he does not revere Magic- rather he fears it. He doesn't hate it but it absolutely petrifies him and he avoids it and those that carry it like the plague! He guards this secret heavily for fear of being found out and, at best killed, at worse tortured with his fear!

He's not easily impressed by the size and strength of his rivals and would rather trade wit for brawn though he does keep up with his own strengths. He's got a sharp tongue and is notorious for picking fights with bigger, dim-witted stags for the maniacal glee he gets from insulting them without them understanding just what he's said.

He doesn't really care for does (shocking!) but in a herd that's so pitifully low on female numbers it shouldn't be a surprise that someone decided he didn't want to fight for the slim-pickings and set his eyes 'elsewhere'. Needless to say his attentions would be far more unwelcome among his comrades than, say, the entire Silverthorne herd traipsing into their territory and 'taking' it. Another secret he doesn't guard this one as closely. It's so easy for the stags to take his comments as insults that he doesn't mind saying something that would otherwise give his secret away.

Be wary when Anubis gets quiet. That's when he's most dangerous. He'll be, no doubt, plotting your death in secret and there won't be anything you can do to stop him (short of killing him first, of course. that could always stop him). Revering and totally fearing his goddess he has a very, very had time coping with any form of visit from the deity and usually goes catatonic for a few days after such an encounter. If you want to kill him you'd best do it in such a moment, dazed and less-than-lucid he won't be much of a warrior at that time.

History:
Anubis was born to an outside doe with a Blackwood father (typical, of course). The doe was particularly small for someone swept away by the Blackwood and was suspected to have had Oakfern in her blood. Because of the 'defective genes' she brought to the table her resulting son was small, shaming his sire. They were abandoned without the stag being announced as having mated with his mother. Traumatized by the turn of events (having grown heavily co-dependent on the stag) Anubis' mother pined away in his early years, dieing by throwing herself from a cliff when she could no longer struggle through life.

In retaliation Anubis, having been told by his mother just before she died who he was, haunted down his sire. Anubis was just barely three years old when he challenged the big stag to a fight. His terms were to the death. It was during the challenge that his quick wit and sharp tongue revealed a little more than they should have. His father, infuriated that the herd was privy to his private business (and the "abomination" he had sired) he attacked his son roaring about how he should have slaughtered him at birth.

The right was not easy. Anubis should have lost. It was his stubborn nature that kept him coming back when his father would back away and leave him just inches from death to rot away in disgrace. The old man eventually collapsed under Anubis, the younger stags teeth firmly clamped around his fathers neck in quite the predatory fashion, suffocating the thrashing buck. He received a severe concussion from his sires massive antlers ramming into his head repeatedly. When the stag finally stopped thrashing and his last breath whispered from his lungs Anubis stumbled away from the clearing, abandoning the lifeless body to the hushed murmuring shock of the herd.

He did not interact heavily with the herd, ever. Keeping to the outskirts he would join in only when necessary to hear what news was really new and then fade back out without offering an opinion. He was never particularly power-hungry in his youth and never joined in the games and challenges for rank. He chose, instead, to watch and wait and see which of his fellow youth would be left at the end. His free time, meanwhile, was spent hunting out and slaughtering wolves and bears and the occasional large cat. Gathering a vivid collection of scar tissue cross-hatching and aching limbs. He was ten before he made any serious bid for 'rank' among the Blackwood. Even then the 'rank' he tried for was simply acceptance in the herd.

He fought twice more since his fathers death and won, killing his third opponent and only maiming the second one. It was shortly after he was accepted and had completed his 'right of passage' that he was trapped by the large wolf pack. Once again his stubborn streak and refusal to die for anything kept him fighting. He did not come away as luckily unscathed as he had as a three year old idiot, however. He lost his tail when two wolves gnawed it off trying to pin him. His eye was lost to a third when it broadsided him and grabbed his face. The last injury he received was in the dieing throws of the beta female of the pack that had attacked him, her mate, the alphas and the rest of them dead she was determined to take him with her and grabbed his throat. Her powerful jaws closed dangerously close to his jugular and ripped, tearing his vocal chords and causing such severe damage that the most he can now manage after carefully nurturing them is a raspy whisper (much like a heavy-smokers voice).

Proud of his scars he chooses to spend the bulk of the years without furs and trophies, feelings his scars and the fact that the little runt is a survivor is trophy enough. In the winter he continues to seek out and slaughter predators to provide himself with warmth but other then that he goes undecorated in his life.

Appearance:
Curly haired with "elk antlers" Anubis is a vibrant red and white fawnling standing approximately 11.2 hands. His tail is missing from a terribly bad fight with a pack of wolves. His left eye, too, is missing from the same fight and much of his vocal chords were damaged when one of the wolves grabbed for his jugular.

Anubis is not a pretty sight by any means. He is no where near as big as some of his kind can get but he's by no means the smallest either! In the medium range of sizes he doesn't have the bully-some bulk but he's got enough brains to make up for his lack of size and bulk and knows just how to utilize what he's actually got.

Every winter he goes out and hunts down a new wolf or two for his winter pelt. In the warmer seasons he forgoes the pelt and parades, instead, his collection of scars and proof of 'invulnerability/immortality' because even a pack of wolves couldn't kill me, what makes the others think they could?

Accessories the skull of a jaguar he killed is worn on his face. The teeth and claws are worn as charms from his antlers and the skull.
