To be honest, it still scares Izumi to think of befriending classmates.It’s hard and scary and what if she’s rejected? What if they grow to hate her? What if it all falls apart and all she’s left with is the shattered pieces of her stupid, stupid trusting heart.
She doesn’t want to trust and lose it. She doesn’t want to have someone prove all her worst fears of being worthless, of being pathetic, of being unlovable…
Sure, she has her friends, and she knows it’s not okay for her to hide behind those fears anymore. She knows better.
And then there’s Junpei.
Ridiculous, sometimes callous, Junpei. She doesn’t really know how he does it or how he knows but he always has some amazing magic trick to show her when she’s feeling down.
It was only after they started talking more that she found out he had a lot of the same fears.
She still doesn’t totally believe him.
He’s just ridiculous, but ridiculous in the most stupidly amazing ways. He cares, and he tries, and he just can talk to people.
It’s hard to believe he has the same fears when he seems like he has so many friends.
But there he is looking at her with concern and strangely not popping flowers out of no where at the sight of her gloom.
“Izumi-chan, are you okay?”
It’s strange that despite all the times he’s cheered her on, she’s never heard him ask that question…
It sort of brings tears to her eyes and she can’t begin to fathom why.
Junpei offers her a slight smile and holds out a hand.
For the life of her Izumi can’t really trace why she took his hand without a thought.
Junpei grinned, pulled her to her feet, and tugged her along.
“Where are we going?”
He gave her another grin, “Forward.”

Lol, thanks x3 I think Takumi and Junzumi have about equal canon rights though, Takuya doesn't really seem to like Izumi like that at any point other than once or twice towards the end and even encourages Junpei to pursue her happily. I think Izumi might have had a bit of a crush on Takuya but I also think she had a bit of a thing for Kouji, really I think she was a ten year old girl with a few crushes and no serious affections. So Takumi is a bit fickle in that I think they may have liked each other a bit but not in any meaningful ways. Not to say Junpei's crush on Izumi was that much more meaningful but I do think he cared more about her and had a bigger crush than any half-maybe crushes that might have existed. Junpei's one of my all time favorite Digimon characters so I have a lot of ships with him but I like Junzumi the most because I think his crush is sweet and I do think if Izumi gave him the time of day, and I do think she would because she's a real awesome sweetheart herself, she could really fall for Junpei
