Description Hugo/Hyacinth - Hugo is a spastic and overly excitable oni boy. He is often seen walking and running on all fours. Despite his clan and family being suspicious and unwelcome to outsiders, he immediatly tries to become friends with Kalmia, who isn’t too keen of the strange boy. He is happy that there is another boy around his age that isn’t too harsh on him and will actually keep him company.

He is bullied and generally looked down upon because he has yet to master a transformation technique that the oni clan has, which causes them to grow into large and fierce monsters. Hugo instead commonly transforms into an octopus, but sometimes transforms into other things. He also has a hard time controlling when he wants to transform, sometimes transforming when he gets overly excited or scared. This causes him to be fairly unstable.

Hugo begs Kalmia to let him tag along with him on his travels, saying that this might be the thing that will help him master his transformation power. Kalmia reluctantly agrees and the two become close friends.

Random Fact: Hugo’s true name is Hyacinth. He absolutely hates being called by this name, making it an easy tool for more bullying and teasing.

Other art of him:

failed transformation

Gah, jeez, this guy's a cutie. I saw him on your Tumblr when I was stalking it, he just seemed like such an incredibly original design. How big is Caspia compared to him?

thank you!

I was actually in the process of drawing a height chart sort of thing for him, caspia and kalmia:
[link] this is a pretty crap drawing but this is their size difference. i think hugo would be a bit taller than kalmia.

caspia is probably around 3 footish while kalmia and hugo are probably around 5'4-5'6? i dont have specific heights for them yet but there ya go

Oh, jeez, I always ask at the wrong time. XD

That's pretty neat! I always kind of end up liking the idea of creepy little stalker girls. :Y So... Just asking 'cuz I'm only 5'9", are Kalmia and Hugo, like, 13? Or are they just kind of on the tall side because they're non-humans? I can't remember if you wrote their ages anywhere whoops dumb 16-year-old beep beep!

By the way, I still want to draw Lune for you sometime. I drew him once like last year? But it was total shit. lD

yea kalmia and hugo are probably around the 12-14 year old range, so they're probably a bit tall for humans that age, but because they are monsters, its probably normal for them. im only 5'4" myself haha.

and you should draw him, id love it for reals!

EVERYTHING MAKES SENSE NOW. :l No, but seriously, thanks for answering all my dumb askage. Pretty neat little thing you have going on with the monsters... Them and Pompeii's universes are different ones, correct? And heh, shorty. <3

Ah, dang, now I gotta do it! I actually have that old referene sheet for him saved somewhere, even. So shy though, man, you and your buds and all your dumb talent make me look extrabad. Lune and Shotyke and hnngh I want to draw all of your characters with my bad trads art. PFFT. I will though now, goshdarn it. >w>

Its fine!

These monster kids and Pompeii & Monte are in separate stories yea, but I'm actually thinking of the possibility that the stories and settings may take place on the same world. I'm not sure if I'll make it that way, but I'm juggling that idea in my head, and if I can think of a plausible, neat way for them to be connected, I might make it that way.

I really need to make a new ref sheet for Lune, and well for all my characters really. But I have a hard time drawing characters just standing around for some reason, so ref sheets are hard for me haha.

Oh, I really like the idea of the high-tech kind of scope and the rougher world of the monster kids being connected in some way! It would probably be interesting for both of them, with Pompeii having been holed up with all that robo shit and then running into a group of rough and tumble monsters... that is, if I have this correct in my head at all. XD It does seem like a bit of a challenge based on how different they look.... then again, compare your average raver to a poverty-stricken third world kid.

Pff, drawing characters standing around is all I CAN do. I think that having character references with them doing some sort of minor action is pretty neat too though; that's how all of mine tend to look because I can never take all the energy away completely without it looking forced.

Well I don't think they would ever meet up, at least not easily. I would imagine there would be a large split in the world that caused one part of the world to develop with advanced technology but with severe warfare problems with semi-apocalyptic areas, and the other part of the world develops in a more classical fantasy type place with all these monster people.

Either that or one is a past version of the world and the other is the future version. Maybe the technological world degrades into the fantasy world after an apocalypse and all the radiation and what not creating mutated humans that eventually become these monster people.

I like the ideas but I'm just not sure its a good idea to combine these two 'worlds' like that. I gotta think about it.
