If you're still interested in knowing, there's this information from the Crash Bandicoot Wiki:
"The Spyro the Dragon series is considered the sister series to Crash Bandicoot and this relationship goes back many years. When the games first started being created, their developers (Naughty Dog and Insomniac ) worked in close proximity to each other and employees often went to parties together and became close friends. This had an impact on their games."
As a result, the two characters would often appear in each others games - either by having a playable demo of each other's games, making a cameo, being a playable character (such as Spyro appearing in Crash Nitro Kart and the recently released Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled) and other times having a full on crossover like the Fusion games (Crash Purple/Spyro Orange) or Crash appearing as Spyro's ally in Skylanders Academy.

Yeah I know this is random but honestly I just love the console wars. they were so edgy. crash and spyro are awesome. Especially when the crossover.

They both had a crossover on Game Boy Advance, "Spyro Orange" and "Crash Bandicoot Purple".
Maybe they play this game thanks to the GameCube Game Boy Player.
