I have yet to finish this quest with my play through of the game. And just like anybody else I thought this Red Death would be a legendary monster to fight. But Nope! It's a cute little mirelurk with big Ol' eyes! And the teddy bear just makes it so innocent. It's wonderful!
The two humans look cool too. The Mariner on the left wants to kill the thing more so for personal glory than the peoples safety. And the Sole Survivor on the right pleads with the Mariner to just spare the creatures life. It has no idea it was causing so much death towards humans. OH! And the use of gray colors is well done in this image. Makes you feel like you are on a foggy island. As it should be.
I also said this in a YouTube video about this quest. There needs to be a Mod that changes this quest for the better.
#1. Make the Red Death a companion. Like any dog companion. Have the little guy or girl follow you onto the boat and greet the people of far harbor. And possibly use it's bright eyes and reputation to scare off other Far Harbor animals from attacking you.
#2. Make the Islanders realize how hypocritical they are. Why are they laughing at the Mariner? They're the ones who are totally scared of the Red Death. The Mariner is the only NPC with the balls of steal to face the creature. Damn superstitious cowards.
I hope that one of the Mods I have will allow me to spare the little one and pass the quest.

Ah, this is amazing. The Mariner's whole arc was probably my favorite quest in the whole game, and this sums it up gorgeously, right down to the little teddy bear it took my fully five minutes to notice.
