Description
It's about the size of a CD, and I assume it has something to do with water. When I first opened this photo in Lightroom something tripped up in my mind because my eyes told me it was inverted.
Sometimes it takes a moment for my mind to figure out what the heck I'm looking at. And not just pictures, anything - toast messiahs (saw Elvis this way once), tea leaves, puddles of mud, etc. If I stare at something long enough I can even hypnotise myself, but that's another matter.
So this manhole thing. When I first saw it on my screen, it looked like the recessed bits, the lighter parts, were actually up, and the darker bits were down. Even knowing this wasn't so, it took a moment for me to see it correctly.
...and it still sneaks up on me from time to time. Can anyone else see wtf I'm talking about?
(I know it's not framed the best, but I only had the 100mm macro lens with me, and although I'm tall I still had to look through the viewfinder)
update: okay, the thumbnail is doing it to me big time. it's definitely the shadow/highlights at fault, and I think it's so obvious that everyone should be able to see the effect I described in the thumb.

I don't see what you're talking about, but I think I understand. It's like one of those crazy eye things that are in the comics!

You know what? This kind of photos are the best. Just the every day things that we over look. I know nothing about photography, but I like this photo. The rust and grime around the word "water" look great and you captured it well.

To be honest, I just aimed down and took the shot (after adjusting the focus) - but I was there, and that's one of the most important parts of photography, being there

A very valid point, I never thought of it that way

I know exactly what you're talking about. I saw it wrong, too, at first. I can actually trick myself into seeing it either way by sort of staring "through" the picture, like you do with one of those magic eye images.

Rather interesting. The quality of the texture is insane.

I had exactly the same thing happen to me over a picture of a footprint. It's all about your mind expecting to see parts of an image recessed due to the areas it expects to be in shadow and instead of concave it appears covex Try flipping the image 180 and you'll see what I mean

I figured it was the shadow in this case, so it's more an optical illusion than my usual problem with 'decoding' images.

I couldn't suppress a chuckle when I saw this
Just from how... blatant and honest this feels.
The specks of blue here and there are sheer mockery

Excellent detailed shot on the texture and I've never had this problems or not that I'm aware off one like that

What an amazing camera. But I've never heard of having that problem, and the thumb still looks lika a miniature version of your photo.

Now I can see the true quality of the lens you have. Excellent shot.
Many take simple things for granted. This has great textures, shapes and indents
