Description Okay, as some people got me thinking what body to add to the turret ([link] ) I've done and I can't really decide what I wanna do, I thought I could just go for it and let you do the work and give it a body/hull of your choice.

So you may be interested a bit more I do a small contest and the creator of the design I like the most, gets a model of his likes from me (if he cares...) and my eternal blessings.

The link provides the Sketchup file (if you don't have Sketchup you can download it here for free: [link] ), containig the turret and some extra stuff to add whereever you like. I don't care if you do the body in 2d (export a turret pic...) or 3d. I'm just eager to see what you people come up with, 'cause it's always nice to see what other ideas you have.

And in the end just a small set of rules:
1. Downlaod the turret file and start doing the body. Small changes on the turret itself are okay, but nothing major, the tracks are just something I've already done, use them or go for something completely different : wheels, jet engines, legs, whatever pleases you.
2. You're design has to be original and not taken from somewhere else (quite obvious).
3. Contest ends on Sunday the 18th of September .
4. You may enter as many designs you want.
5. When finished with your design upload it with a link to this page and tell me with a link to it in my journal ( [link] ) about it.
8. The winner is picked by me and fellow deviant, and will get a model of a vehicle/mech of his choice modeled by me.

So if you feel like it, I'd be happy if you join.

hmm? is there something wrong with your tank recognition skills? the 'Flakpanzer Gepard' is a mobile anti air vehicle based on the German Leopard 1 chassis.

Hmm...one little problem.
Could the design be simplified?
The way I am looking at the turret it screams weakpoints all over the place and shot traps.

It could be okay, but to me it just doesn't look right..somethings off. Or its just my anti-tank specialization say find all the problems.

I know, I know, I know, but that was not what the design was about, so well. If you wann join the contest, don't simplifiy it too much (as i said only minor changes to the turret are allowed).
If you just wann use for whatever then go ahead and simplify it as much as you want. I am happy to see the results.

No offense to Flaketom, but this thing has so many weak points realistically as a tank it would be very difficult to fix all of them. It would especially be difficult to fix all of them since he stated he prefer you dont change the turret too much.

Please excuse me if i'm being overly critical.
(and even though the realism isn't top notch, it's still one of the coolest turrets i've seen)

A concept is just fine. Only think it should have is the the turret, without that one having been alterned not too much (changing that one a bit might be necessary, so it can turn properly or whatever...)

Yea, i modified the turret in another file but i ended up just importing another one cause it was taking to long to import. i'm telling you those pieces are not friendly with my computer...

Yea, i'd imagine you already know this since you've been making models like these for a probably quite a while now. You can hide the majority of the model to work on one piece, either that or just work on all the pieces on a different sketchup window to keep modelling speed as normal as possible.

again, you probably knew this but if you didn't it would probably help you a lot.

Mostly I work with two windows, as the hide option had a bug in a former Su version of mine, and did crash everything quite often, so I got out of habit using that one. But maybe thats the point of using it again. Thanks.
But the worst thing is the Autosave option. I know I can turn it off, but then again it helped me that often, so I'm torn in between the two options. Autosave less often, and probably loosing stuff, or having a harder working flow, but be secure...Ach. As long as these are my problems...

Usually i just stop a model before it gets to big to work with, but with some of my nicer detailed ones i actually either work in another window or hide some of it. i've never had any trouble with the autosave, at least that i know of. but i know for sure if i didn't have it that i would lose a ton of progress on pretty much all of my models without it.

Sounds smart, stopping when it gets to big. Autosave is not making real problems, it does what it should, but autosaving always takes sooo long...

yea but rarely in models like ([link] ) i kind of get carried away and make to much detail
this one has like 6 or 7 million edges. it also was made along the time period of about a month. those models are pretty rare for me though, i can only think of 2 or three that are so high poly.

Haha. Sorry about that one. Yeah the file got quite big, but just using the turret without them extra parts nearly cuts the file size down to the half.
