Description Ok I'm doing a mecha and now I'm stuck. Don't know which concept I should follow.
Added a third version, which is B with fast done arms, just for the looks
So what do you guys think. A or B or C or get-rid-of-all.

Greylord makes a good point. Hot swappable mission components would allow the Mech to fulfill a wide array of roles, beyond simple offensive/defensive measures.

Perhaps, stick with the basic body, maybe even going so far as to include the body mounted gun as a standard component (though I'd put it on a turret with a wider range of motion) and then make the arm/gun attachment point, a sort of hot-swappable component jack that could accept gun mounts, fully articulated arms, or other specialized equipment.

Basically, it would look like B when nothing is added, but then could like like A, C, and 'D' (or a combination of those) depending on what different attachments added.

Yes, that's really a nice idea, maybe I'll stick to it.
The front turret would definitely need a wider range motion, just haven't modeled it. Such an immobile mount doesn't make sense at all.
As I first intendet it to be more of an mobile fortress, I haven't thought about giving it options for different defensive/offensive roles.
Thanks a lot for the comment.

I'd go with my own option, D. have the arms/side guns be optional/mission specific equipment.

Also a nice idea. Will think of it.
and thank you for the comment.

It wouldn't be hard to do. You already have the parts, all you'd have to do would be to use the same sized connection for the arms or turrets. Although if your going for a mobile gun turret the idea of enlarging and putting the gun on top in a rotable turret would give it a fairly unique identity.

So many good ideas...
Will have a look!

Yeah having arms seems important, it doesn't look agile so it looks like it would need them.

Nah, should't be to agile, as I wanted it to be to have two roles/ modes, with one of it being some sort of stationary. So a better degree of mobility for the guns makes sense.
Thanks for the advice!

A

Turrets are nearly always better than fixed-forward guns. I like the ammo drums.

Thanks for the help.
Yeah, the front gun in B, should actually be on a turret, so there is some way to traverse it to the left/right and up and down (which is still limited, but...). Was just do lazy to model it, as I started with A and then started to doubt the design and thought of other ways...

Leaning towards A myself.

What are those pink things, by the way?

The pink triangle mark the joints, so it's later easier for me if I want to pose him.
On the final pic they'll be hidden.

That's what I figured

I've been playing around with Sketchup myself and I've been using the same technique. Last night I was modeling a Stinger missile, and I used that method to 'pose' the pop-out fins.

Yeah, it helps a lot.
You gonna post some Sketchup models? Would be nice to see them.

I'm thinking of posting the Stinger to the Google Sketchup club once I'm done with it. I'm almost finished... just a few tweaks dimension-wise.
