Description Well it should have become an anti gravity racer for the googlesketchup group community project... I meant it to be totally harmless, without any guns or whatever, but then someone talked about huge big weapons and all of a sudden this happend.
Think I will have to throw all the weapons out and give it a new paint job....
hmmmm.

It may be a bit green and militaristic... and a bit DAKKA... But which race car would I put my money on? Well... THE ONE WITH GUNS!

flaketom In reply to CalamityJones [2010-03-10 19:36:29 +0000 UTC]

Yes, but...your fault that I started to put guns on it

dukeleto [2010-03-10 10:07:05 +0000 UTC]

It does look a bit militaristic, more like a C22nd version of a LRDG jeep! Maybe it's the colour scheme as much as the weaponry tho.
That said, it's absolutely awesome, and the Wipeout vehicles were fairly heavily armed, too.

flaketom In reply to dukeleto [2010-03-10 12:01:48 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much! Yeah it's definitely to militaristic, but I just did the race car version of it...

Remove - guns.
Add + Blue paint and Shelby Cobra Racing badges.
Equals = Awesome.

All in all though, reminds me of a really awesome version of Wipeout.

WOW. Seems tragic that you'd be caught up in requirements for a project when what you have going here is so damn cool so far! Must salute you for following your muse!

My initial response to shape is that it almost looks like it could be an aquatic submersible craft, but that's obviously way off the mark given the weapon systems. Apparently, the weapons aren't supposed to be there, but, but.... they look so good!

The bonus new is that you're designing an anti-grav racer, which is such a great genre, and so much fun to play with! [link]

Kind of agree w/ Newton above; that you should finish your racer, but continue to allow this militarized version to grow on its own as well. Hate to think of either idea not getting a fair shake.

Plenty of anti-grav racing games where ships carry weapons anyway. And besides, I love thinking about racing vehicles converted into a military role -like a Dakar rally 4x4 tweaked out by mercenaries or something. Definitely have pondered that very subject w/ an anti-grav racer in mind.

No matter what, the exercise has taken you to some cool places already. Whatever happens, I'll be looking forward to the results.

Thanks for the note, BTW. Will get back to you on that later.

Thanks and especially thanks for your patience with the mecha, but I definitely was somehow stuck with it (not because of your sketches as they are worked out really great, but because of some mental stupidity of mine ).
Seen your racers and really like them, aslo like your style of presentation, as that's a part I'm really bad with, as my photoshop skills are none existent and I'll have to do everything with Illustrator...)
Already thought about elaborating the militarized version but there really isn't a thing I can add/change, at least what I can think of right now. Maybe later. but first I'll try to get my muse to work on the mecha, as it is definitely time for that..
Ok so see ya around.

Rob-Cavanna In reply to flaketom [2010-03-10 17:39:04 +0000 UTC]

You know, since you mention it, I think the military version is fine as is. Doesn't need anything new really. Altho, if you like, I can think of an easy way to put a cool camo pattern on it for you. Maybe a nice thank you for your work on the WWII mech.

Also, hope you find this site interesting: [link]

You can click on different teams and check out their craft (language should be set to Deutsch for you). Love the graphic style and presentation here. Wipeout series= always my favorite anti-grav racing inspiration.

flaketom In reply to Rob-Cavanna [2010-03-10 19:33:45 +0000 UTC]

Thanks and ooooooh yes I'd love to have a nice camo pattern on it. Take my soul for it! But wait (if you have the time and never ever feel under any constraint to do it) till I'm done with the mech!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rob-Cavanna In reply to flaketom [2010-03-10 19:59:08 +0000 UTC]

No problemo, Tom. And no need to wait till the mech is done either. It's just something that would be very fun and easy for me to do.

All I need is for you to is 1) pick an ideal pose you like 2) send me a hirez image of this vehicle in Black and White Line WITH shading, rather like these: [link] From there, it is a fairly simple thing to drop in color w/ photoshop. Ultimately, I plan on doing a similar thing w/ the finished WWII mech art, so it could be good practice. The finish might look something like this: [link] But the camo color could be anything really. Not just green or brown: [link]

Thanks, looks everything great!
here are the black and white images, I think the lower is better one! Hope they're alright if not tell me.
[link]

Also played around with some camo schemes but they're all not that good.

Rob-Cavanna In reply to flaketom [2010-03-11 01:35:42 +0000 UTC]

I agree that the lower one is a better option. Is there any way you can create a higher resolution image of just that one? The lines are a tiny bit pixelated and show some 'stepping' when I zoom in close. Just would like to make it the best quality possible.

The camo schemes you did so far aren't bad at all. I could play around and come up w/ something similar. Or just tune the colors on some of my old custom camo textures and pop those in. Also I should come up w/ some simple background that would fit w/ the colors (cuz I need lots of practice in that area).

*Been sick for almost a week now * zonks into a brief coma* Catch ya later, Tom!

First of all I hope your gonna be better soon!
Will try to get a better pic (don't know if .png or .tif is a better file format?).
I rather have you do one of your own, as I like them more. The ones I took were just the easiest way. I added some textures and took the digital/edgy patterns as they work best on sketchup models (at least that's what I think).
And there's gonna be a background? GREAT!
Again! Get well soon!

Rob-Cavanna In reply to flaketom [2010-03-11 15:38:49 +0000 UTC]

A Hirez jpeg is totally fine. Just need a higher pixelcount. For example, if the lower one is 13"x8" at 100dpi, it would really help to have it w/ same dimensions but more like 250 or 300dpi. I'm not familiar w/ how sketchup exports 2D images, but hopefully they give you an option for image size (I'm guessing that sketchup files can be scaled larger like a vector based file? but don't know for sure). Can they be saved in a vector format while keeping the shading?

Also, do you have any preference about the general camo feel? Jungle, desert, urban? Green, beige, or gray, or anything else? Yeah, I really ought to come up w/ some sort of background. Nothing too extravagant tho. The ship will probably occupy most of the frame, and since the camera is angled down, it would probably be mostly ground texture.

Starting to feel better, but now my son is coughing!

flaketom In reply to Rob-Cavanna [2010-03-14 19:19:02 +0000 UTC]

Hi there, back from a weekend out of town, now I'm trying to find way how to export it properly, vector format exporting only functions without the shading (well some shading still exists but not all (don't know of an easy way how to describe it) so this seems not to be the way.Hmmm.
I will try a better resolution JPEG, hope this will do it. We'll see.
And no,there is no real preference on which camo it should be, I'd say just go ahead and give whichever version you like a try, but if you have no clue I'm gonna think about it again and tell you!
And yes it's always some sort of merry go round with them illnesses (diseases? don't know which is the proper word?!).
But hope everybody is doing better already or soon!
Greetings.

Only issue with the firearms is their location with regards to the maneuver/thruster array wings. They need to hang below them or stick out above them.

Awesome design. A good racer, and a decent replacement for the military light attack vehicles (which gives them some air cover like a small helicopter)

flaketom In reply to Silverlion [2010-03-10 08:21:54 +0000 UTC]

Yeah you right with the gun in the front,I had in on the upper side, so it would be able to move freely, but it looked awkward, so I thought what the heck and put it beneath the fuselage. And putting it further down would look even more...hmmm. stupid.
