He is very calm, and often cheerful..and his students might see him as a bit laid back. However, he can be surprisingly strict.

He speaks rather eloquently and is quite cultured when it comes to art, religion, and of course, philosophy.

History:
Derek's father was a mutant, a psychic who had powerful telekinesis...so he was very welcomed and loved in his household. He had a rather normal childhood, and his family sought out the X-Institute and had him enrolled when he was fifteen. Their biggest concern was his education, but the school assured them that the institute would provide him with a great one.
He left when he was eighteen to attend college to become a professor, and came back when he was twenty five to fill one of the positions.
