I saw some artists on Instagram doing a "Decade Challenge" or "Ten Year Challenge" and I really wanted to try it out!

On the left is one of the first drawings I ever posted on DeviantArt, drawn right after Tangled first came out in 2010. The right drawing was just finished the other day - my first drawing of 2020! Tangled has been and still remains my favorite Disney movie since it came out. It has a special place in my heart so I thought it would be perfect for a redraw.

This was so interesting to see how drastically my style has changed. I remember in 2010 being so frustrated because I was desperately trying to find my own style and I was very unhappy with what I was doing at the time. I had several artist friends that I admired, but I got so caught up in comparing myself to them and trying to emulate their styles that I was distracted and disheartened with my own work. I'm in a much better place now where I feel like I have found my own style and I don't need to compare myself to other artists. There will always be better artists than me and that's ok - I like my art and understand that there is always room to grow. Patience and practice are key (:

2019 was not a good year for me for art because I was so busy with other things and finished so few drawings. Since I now have a stable job and a place of my own my hope for 2020 is to get back to my art and be able to take the time to work on it more.
