Description
He's honestly my fave rival. You probably know i hate to draw fanarts but Hop deserved one.I loved his development so much! It made him very special and interesting imo owo
Also the uniform looked like a pijama so i added short sleeves hoping it could look a bit better.
Plz dont commenting writing me "he's awful! how could you enjoy a character like this" because any comment like that will be deleted.
Hop belongs to TPC
Art belongs to me

Honestly, it's not just Hop that's lacking, it's all the story aspects, including the characters.
At least the gameplay is fun?
I'm glad people can still enjoy the things that have been written off by so many others, though.
That being said though, I did feel bad having to beat down Hop in the semi-finals to get through the game. All that work and grief just to wind up in another trainer's shadow. I can see why you enjoyed that aspect of the character, it's just that to me, the game needed way more fleshing out to have content that was worth the effort.

yeah, sadly TPC never has been the best at plot making...im still mad at them for creating the two sword and shield brothers like that
Tho im not suprised at the plot being so simple hhhh its always have been like that in main core games (except for b/w)

I feel like "Sun" and "Moon" had a pretty good story, even if the Ultra Beasts were a little off-the-wall.
That was like a big boy galaxy brain moment for them, and then "Sword" and "Shield" compared to that is like a mentally defunct chimpanzee.
"Black" and "White" were pretty good, but it's been a while since I played them....it would be nice to revisit it, but it's so hard for me to get invested in the older games now....I have started a "White 2" save file and only made it past Roxie because she's cool like that....but no further. I never played them on launch because I was like "'Black 2'? 'White 2'? I'm not supporting that lazy shit!" But apparently there's near child murder in them so like...I guess they can't be that bad? "Pokemon" can get really dark when it wants to.
I've sadly mostly let the spin-off games go untouched on my end....except for a tiny bit of "Mystery Dungeon". But it seems like the days of the spin-offs are at an end...and they can't even be bothered to put their all into the main games anymore...

to me it was quite the opposite. Sun, Moon and USUM had all the chances to have great plots but lost itΒ
SwoShi had a simply plot but it was costant during the whole story and nothing was added randomly and then leaved after 2 screen times (im still super disappointed at the whole ppl from another galaxy plot added for the sake of it without telling anything)
imo considering good plotting the "lets add child murder" is quite wrong. Adding death stuff doesnt necessarily mean the plot is nice. I mea, x and y revoled over villain wanting to do a genocide but the whole plot is inexistent at its best
sadly seems like TPC doesnt have time anymore to make spin offs...which is quite dumb, if they'd do a spin off they would have enough time to make a better core game xwx
but if you look for death and dark themes mystery dungeon is indeed what you should try, specially Super mystery dungeon, i cried quite a lot with it

Yeah, I wasn't exactly saying that child death = good plot, but I was surprised when I heard about the near murder of your character by Ghetsis and Kyurem. Again, I haven't played it myself.
I think the characters in SM at least were particularly strong, working with the plot it had. But USUM was very unnecessary.

Ghetsis is a very cool character YET an awful person, he also used his own son as face to his organization, teaching him all weird stuff and almost mindwashing him....im the type of person who get very curious by these types of characters frronegoregjtrknkjrt
:0 i found some SM's charas very plain, but i LOVED Lillie her mother and team skull's boss (which...i cant remember is name or remember if he had a different name in italian sorry orz)...Hau is hated by many but i liked him

I totally agree on Ghetsis. He and Lusamine need ironic "World's #1 Mom//Dad" mugs.
The trial captains weren't particularly strong characters, but they didn't really need to be. The kahunas matter a little more, and I can agree that I didn't really find any of them amazing, even though I do like Olivia.Β
Guzma is Team Skull's boss! It's ya boi.
Hau doesn't really make me feel much of anything, positive or negative, ha ha.

Ah, I know who you're talking about! In the English version he's called Nanu.
It kind of makes me think of this really old American sitcom that starred Robin Williams as an alien. He would salute his superior and say, "Nanu nanu.".

I don't think Hop is a hateful character. If anything, I am sad for him to be in his brother's shadow at the beginning of the story and in the player's shadow at the end of the game (well, he does have Zacian/Zamazenta in his team though). In a way, I believe he could have gone through a deeper character developement (like, his getting mad to always be behind - it's sort of triggered at first when he says he seems to be unable to beat the player/his brother - and decides to follow the president in order to get more power but then decide to go back to the light, or something) than just being the player's faithful supportive rival.Β
In that aspect, it was sad, but all in all, it's a loveable character.
And your art of him is good! (too bad he seems in pain/upset Β And older too?)

i think his "costant life in the shadows of others" its what makes him interesting. He's upset that he cant be as strong as us/his brother and he realizes whatever he does wont change it. He's a supportive rival because he's a nice person yet, he do get mad, he do get upset, he even tried to change his team hoping to be better than us.
I dont think having a deeper developement should mean getting on the evil side. He's a good person, it would have felt way too out of character.
Β i actually dont get why you said "too bad he seems upset" on my pic owo Its MEANT to look upset. i used a screen from the game as reference, specifically, the one that appears once you beat him during the finals. Thats the face he makes, an upset face. Then he says he always knew he wasnt meant to be a good trainer (or something. I dont know the english dialogue).
The older thing is probably only due to my style uvu

Fresh-Minty In reply to Flamingo-sama [2019-12-20 17:05:27 +0000 UTC]
I don't know the English dialog either (French here). And when I said 'too bad', is that I'd have hoped to see him rather looking happy. If you say that he knew he wasn't a good trainer, he'd not look that upset to lose. Yet again, if your aim was to have him look upset, congrats, you did it!
Regarding the 'turning evil', who know? Everyone can have their bad side, especially when they see that they can't reach their goal (here, defeating his brother) the 'nice way'. What we know/is shown of Hop isn't enough to really define what can be his 'turning' point.

i see what u mean uvu just i dont think he'd ever do something like that uwu i think we just have different points of view, didnt wanted to sound rude or anything

No worry, you didn't sound rude at all. I was merely stating my point of view, just as you did Β
