AND WHY ARE YOU EVEN HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE?! WHY ARE YOU CONSTANLY OUSTING ME IN TERMS OF POPULARITY?! WHY DOES EVERYONE ALWAYS MISTAKE ME FOR YOU?! AND WHY ARE YOU SO DAMN EXPENSIVE?!? YOU'RE JUST A GREEN ROCK, LIKE ME. BUT, WHY AM I SO SMITTEN WITH YOUR BEAUTY? WHY IS YOUR COLOUR SO EYE-CATCHING AND YOUR RADIANCE SO EXCEPTIONAL!? WHY IS THIS SO?!?! UGH SO MANY QUESTIONS SO LITTLE TIMECalm down, Peridot.
So I have made a bunch of Steven Universe-inspired gemstone personification characters (mostly birthstones). I guess they could be considered gemsonas in a way? Personally, I am not sure, but for the time being we'll call them that.
As mentioned earlier, the green gem on the left is Peridot. Now Peridot has a ridiculously long history of being mistaken for Emerald, the gem on the right. The green gemstones that adorn the Three Holy Kings in the Cologne Cathedral were thought to be emeralds before they were eventually identified as peridot, to name an example. As a result, Peridot does not like Emerald! On the other hand, Emerald doesn't think very much of Peridot and is unfazed by the August birthstone's volcanic temper and angry screaming.
Just for the record, their designs are based off Esmeralda and Judge Frollo from (the Disney rendition of) the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Since the name Esmeralda literally means "emerald", and she was described as strikingly beautiful (much like her namesake stone) I think it would be appropriate to design the personification of emerald as such. Frollo also acutely resents Esmeralda for supposedly putting a spell on him, so, naturally, the peridot would be...
Frollo also has irony as a fundamental part of his characterization, i.e. he sees himself as a pure, righteous man of God yet is widely considered to be one of the most evil antagonists in film history, and in one part of his song, Hellfire, he repeatedly insists that the, ahem, attraction he feels for Esmeralda is not his fault while the latin chant in the background, supposedly representing his conscience, chant "mea culpa", meaning "my fault". His death is incredibly ironic too, but I won't spoil it (watch the movie or look the scene up on YouTube yourself). And where does peridot get its characteristic green color from? Yep, you guessed it right, iron. Peridot is an idiochromatic gemstone, which means that its color comes from the basic chemical composition of the stone itself, (Mg,Fe)2SiO4, rather than the impurities that normally provide color to most gemstones.
I know Peridot and Emerald are pretty much Frollo and Esmeralda recolors atm, but I plan on modifying their designs. Peridot's outfit ought to have some degree of Pakistani influence since the finest quality peridots come from Kashmir, Pakistan. Probably make the robe look a like a phiran or something. I'm not too sure about Emerald's design to be honest, some suggestions would be appreciated! :'P
Steven Universe belongs to Rebecca Sugar and Cartoon Network, the Hunchback of Notre Dame belongs to Victor Hugo and Disney, and these gemsonas/gemstone humanizations belong to me, I think.

Although the characters here may be strongly Steven Universe-inspired, they're part of their own "universe" in a sort of way and are different from the SU gemstones. For example, their characterization is more firmly rooten in real life gem history and lore than their SU counterparts, and their designs are more on the fancy side. Just clearing up some stuff! Sorry! :'P

This .... CLEVER! Bishops in Rome wear rings with Peridot stones, gem's supposed to stand for morality and all together purity - and it should also be a protection against volatile or negative emotions! ... Frollo ... LOL!!!!!!
