Benedict Arnold (ベネディクト・アーノルド) is a ghost and the Stage 3 boss of Afterword Afterworld.

During the events of Afterword Afterworld, a large sinkhole opened up in the ground, of which is a portal to the deepest floors of hell, the very places of which sinners are tortured for prolonged periods of time. However, it seems like the spirits of aforementioned sinners are escaping from the hole, apparently fleeing from something inside. According to Abraham Lincoln, these spirits appear to be "a cry for help" rather than something malicious. During the third stage of the story, it is revealed that these spirits were sent out to the surface by Benedict Arnold who is trying to get help from the surface dwellers, claiming that Hell isn't what it used to be anymore, the balance being disrupted by an unidentified external force.

You can choose whether or not to have her join the heroine after you beat her from stage 4 onwards. With Arnold in your party, your item collection radius is a little larger, you'll get slightly more bomb and life piece bonuses and your maximum power level increases a bit. However, Stage 6 will be longer and harder. Without Arnold backing the player up, nothing will change, except Stage 6 is shorter and easier. There is a spike in difficulty from Stage 4 onwards, so pick your poison. The presence of Benedict Arnold in your party will also determine what ending you'll get.

Personality
Benedict Arnold seems lost and greatly unsure of her own abilities. She also appears to be very regretful over her crimes in life and wants to clear her bad reputation as a traitor. She has very low self-esteem and is somewhat timid.

Abilities
The ability to make others rebel and betray against their leaders. It is not known how powerful this ability is, but it seems to be quite weak as all she has done with it is cause a large group of random small-fry spirits to flee above ground in an arguably pathetic attempt to rebel against their "leader" (the stage 6 boss of the game). Her weakness seems to be justified, though, as she hasn't really gotten the hang of her special powers yet.

Unique Spellcard Gimmick
References to the American Revolution. Red, blue and white spell cards that carry a sense of indecisiveness and insecurity.

Occupation
None. Former Major General and Brigadier General in the US Continental and British armies respectively.

• The scallop shell on her hat is a reference to the plaque denoting the location of her burial site (image1.findagrave.com/photos25… ), which is has an image of a scallop shell carved onto it, representing rebirth. This one's more of a rebirth into the Touhou franchise.
• Her stage name, "Invader from Hell", is a reference to a retro Batman comic where Robin and Batgirl go head to head with a Satanic ghost of Benedict Arnold. She also has a line of dialogue quoted from said comic: "For 200 years, the name of Benedict Arnold has lived in infamy. Today, that will end!"
• Absolutely NO relation to Amanda Todd whatsoever! This girl is not that other Benedict Arnold OC that I have! >:P
