Description
My half of a trade with ~faithandfreedom . This is her Beauceron character Darko and her mutt character AJ. I experimented with adding cell shading to a colored sketch in this picture.

Critiques warmly welcomed! I'd especially like advice on making dogs look breed-specific (does the Beauceron character really look like a Beauceron?).
Traditionally sketched, colored in openCanvas 1.1, shading and textures added in Photoshop CS4; I scanned the textures myself.
Time spent: A few days altogether.

yeah i used to show dogs and your Beauceron is spot on. there are the double due claws in back but you can't see those. just for future in case you ever draw another one.

your Beauceron is impressive, instead of sticking to a basic Doberman type with a bit of thickness a some people do, you've made yours look realistic. It's got the neater facial features of the breed, the overall working-bulk of the shepherding breeds and you have the correct muzzle length and coat thickness seen in the breed. He looks like a Beauceron should!
I hope that doesn't sound strange, only I work with dogs and you get into a weird descriptive habit.

For some reason the words "The final countdown" appeared in my head. This is so awesome, and what makes it better is how the anatomy of the dogs is like...right on point. This may be a little feature but i love that white propped paw. That stance is perfect, it matches the mood, the tension and the other dog's bodily expression.
