My half of a trade with ~Clerical-Error - a colored sketch of her short-beaked common dolphin character Soquel exploring a shipwreck with a boat lantern. I actually finished this about two months ago, but only recently got her approval to post it.

Critiques warmly welcomed! I'd especially like feedback on the background and the coloring, and I'd really like to know how I did with drawing a dolphin.
Traditionally sketched, colored in Photoshop CS4.
Time spent: A few weeks altogether.

Oh, wow, this is beautiful. Always nice to see a piece with a background from you, especially one this lovely. I like the linework everywhere, as well as the green lighting and character. Dolphins are amazing, and you portrayed this one quite well :>

Absolutely gorgeous! Your full-background illustrations are always a real treat, I love the interesting angle you have here and how you chose those pinks and blues for contrast. I'm no expert with cetaceans but that is one awesome-looking dolphin to my eye.
As far as critique goes - perhaps you could make the layers going off into the distance more and more blue whereas the nearer to the foreground they get they could be more purple/pink? I think that would tie the foreground and the background together better. But I do think this is very beautiful, neon colours are tricky to work into the colour scheme of a picture but I think you made it work!

I'm a little confused by the background, cuz normally the light comes from above, whereas yours is dark on top & goes lighter towards the bottom. I do love all the little details & barnacles etc in the background though.
