EDIT: Upon suggestion of various people (in combination with my own recognition of the problem) I did my best to make Wolf and Quicksilver look more wet/rainy... I hope I managed... End Edit

It had been cloudy the entire day, but so far, the clouds kept their water to themselves... Wolf hoped it stayed that way...

But of course, minutes before the first entrant started, the sky opened. It started as a slow drizzle, but within 15 minutes, it had turned into a veritable downpour... The sky was so dark it almost appeared night-time.

'Oh boy...' Wolf sighed, as he watched the first entrant slipping and gliding over the soggy ground. '... this isn't going to be funny...'

"Try taking it easy, Wolf, especially the turns. I know you want to win, but I'd rather you didn't break any bones..." Coli cautioned as she walked Wolf with his already soaked mount towards the start.

Wolf nodded. "I'll do my best, boss." He winked, knowing how she hated to be called boss.

"Oh, get on with you...!" Coli said mock-annoyed, stepping back.

As they were waiting for the signal to start, Wolf patted 'Silver soggy neck. "Ready, scamp?"

Quicksilver neighed confidently, looking back at Wolf, as if to say; 'a little rain won't stop me!'

The start was quick, and 'Silver nearly lost his footing there as he slipped in the muddy grass. But if there was one thing they were used to, it was wetness, so they quickly fell into a rythm, taking obstacle after obstacle.

However, this weather was simply nuts! Wolf quickly found out. Visibility was very bad and every jump or landing there was a chance of slipping. Quicksilver was sure-footed though, seeming completely at ease. After taking a log, the stallion even let out a little neigh, obviously enjoying himself.

"Enjoying yourself, huh?" Wolf talked to the stallion through the downpour. "Well, if you are, I might as well do the same! Let's show them what an amazing stallion you are!"

This is my entry for =January-27 's cross-country contest, even if it has already been cancelled I'm late with it because I found out just before finishing that it was cancelled... but then after talking with =January-27 I was convinced to finish after all, and I have to say I absolutely love this image!

Oh, btw; it's not very clear from the story, but they've actually jumping straight into a stream here...

Anyways, enjoy!

btw; Wolf is another son of Firehand (and Thora), younger brother to Dare.
