Description "After I had retired to the place where I had previously designed to go, having looked around me, and finding myself alone, I kneeled down and began to offer up the desires of my heart to God. I had scarcely done so, when immediately I was seized upon by some power which entirely overcame me, and had such an astonishing influence over me as to bind my tongue so that I could not speak. Thick darkness gathered around me, and it seemed to me for a time as if I were doomed to sudden destruction.
But, exerting all my powers to call upon God to deliver me out of the power of this enemy which had seized upon me, and at the very moment when I was ready to sink into despair and abandon myself to destruction—not to an imaginary ruin, but to the power of some actual being from the unseen world, who had such marvelous power as I had never before felt in any being—just at this moment of great alarm, I saw a pillar of clight exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me.
It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!"

From the prophet Joseph Smith's History. An account of his first vision of God the Father and Christ the Son appearing to him as a 14 year old boy in a grove near his home in Palmyra New York in the early spring of 1820. This was probably the greatest spiritual event since the resurrection of Christ. Joseph would go on to translate the Book of Mormon by the power of God and found the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints by Divine direction.
I know this is a departure from my other works, and it's supposed to be. I wanted to do a work that said something .. well.. more. Maybe some thing that made someone think for once, or even better, pray. All praises to God the Father and Christ the Son and to the Testimony of the Holy Ghost which made this piece possible. Amen

I really like this painting. With all the image's of Christ and his Father I see in art. somehow they all don't appear to impress me as to what he really looked like. I like this work because, I feel what the person is seeing. I wonder myself?

This is a really stirring rendition of the first vision, and I love how alive and "in the moment" you've made this image. The hand especially, cut from the page but wholly articulated, amazes me, and the first detail I noted was really the two tones of color for his eyes.

Lovely, lovely work. It really brings the spirit with it, and makes me want to create similar pieces in the wake of your example.

Very well done. What is your media? I would love to do artwork in this style.. I have seen a lot of renditions of this great happeneing but this is byfar one of my favorites, as innocent as it may seem.

A+ and way to post your beliefs in such a controversial world.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I did this piece in Corel Painter v8. I did a little touch up in Photoshop. I am very glad you like this piece as I really put a great deal of thought and prayer into it.

Thanks again and God bless you.

Faith is something one shoudl always hold in high regard. And apperently you do a much better job of it than others do. Kudos and hats off to you... very nice work.

however our doctrines may not line up (i am of the evangelical free denomination in the protestant vein of belief), i admire your integration of faith into your art. your talent is obvious, but its your boldness to present you belief so directly into this piece that i really am moved by.

...

you would make an excellent member of my church... but based on this piece I think that is unlikely to happen.

nice piece.

GrayAlienArt In reply to olorc [2012-04-27 06:09:52 +0000 UTC]

Too bad your church is closed to someone with such "faith and integration" That is not like how Christ was at all. And to put someone out because they believe so strongly in a man who was visited by the son of God, only further confirms the message that "churches are corrupt and to join none of them" "for they speak close to me with their lips but hearts are far from me"
