Hardest scene to watch since The Show Stoppers.

Spike's first solo song it hurts him like hell. I knew it was so bad that I had to mute Β it after the first second.

That's all people seem to have taken from Spike's best episode over. Most of them are so fucking busy agonizing over his horrible song and refusing to appreciate his awesome heroics.

It was necessary, though. The more deeply you felt discomfort, the more clearly you were supposed to empathize with his victory. The operative phrase being supposed to. I'm afraid there are so many pony-obsess dipshits out there that they hate Spike too much to care about his triumph. An even more upsetting possibility is that if any one of the mane six had done everything Spike did, the fanbase probably would have felt that her song was adorable and her victory worth an ovation.

Sadly, that's all too true. Fans just don't give Spike enough credit compared to the others, all because he's not a pony and he's not a girl (people even refuse to acknowledge him as a main character because of that!!). The episode was a huge step forward in character development for Spike, and people are too prissy over the fact that the Equestria Games was 'overshadowed' (not even by that much, anyways) by Spike getting the attention he deserved. Not only is this Spike's best episode yet, but it's is my absolute favorite episode of the series yet. I know how Spike felt through the whole episode as I've been in the same situation, feeling more depressed over failures that didn't matter rather than being happy about victories that did.
Although, I DO hope he finally gets a real song in the future, one that people can enjoy and appreciate more.

Person I'm a huge Spike fan so I both love and hate the ep. But I do feel the pain that many of the fans feel for the games to be over shadowed like that.

I'm down with almost everything you say here. Only bit that's not quite right is that most people dismiss Spike because he's just a supporting/butt monkey character who adds nothing to the overall series (idiotic, as he adds variety to the mane cast, a foil for Twilight, and has more potential than any other character), and he does nothing to advance the plot in any given script. They're somewhat legitimate, but they really need to open their eyes to how much room for growth and story possibilities he has. A dragon living with ponies: that right there opens up all kinds of good shit.

I actually like Spike, and I thought that his truimph at the end of the episode was great.
But this thing still happened.
