Description
This was a new one - I don't think I've ever really done any landscape pieces before, other than the background on my illustration pieces, but they're always obscured by a creature as the main focus. This was the other way round.
Not much art direction given with this other than the title, which is nice to have such freedom to explore. Ths may have been slightly influenced by a certain manga series... cough.... (I'm obsessed... help me...)
I'm really happy with the dragon. I just doodled it on and painted straight away without much thought which is a first for me. Also, rocks are my new love.
Part of a series of commissions.

Really gorgeous lighting! I especially love how the dragon's wing membranes and the river catch it.

Ho! That has to be one of the most epic solar eclipses in fantasy art I've ever seen thus far!
And the cute dragon observing it with curiosity and intrigue, very nice touch.
Splendid work, fellow deviant! This deviation is totally
'd!

Subliiime, what a gorgeous scape, of course the colours (as always, but especially love that sense of depth. And that dragon is great too with the way the light plays off its wings
(And I'm sure I have no idea what influenced you there, hahaha. It's definitely a real good thing though, driving these new, creative illustrations)

Chershad had been warming herself in the morning sun, having just enjoyed a lovely sunrise, when having just risen it had started to disappear to her confusion.Β Her wings were still outstretched, although there was not a lot of warmth in the sun while it was eclipsed.Β She might have at least lowered her wings, but she was fascinated and entranced by the vision of Entraya's inner moon totally covering the sun, leaving a beautiful ring of rays around the edge.Β While she watched this rare phenomenon, the heat in her chest made steam and a low bubbling rumble of emotion.

I know the feeling. When Crash was announced I was crossing my fingers for Spyro. And now here we are!

When they announced the N. Sane Trilogy, I knew Spyro was soon to follow, for two reasons:
1. Wherever Crash goes, Spyro is sure to follow, and Activision would be idiots not to cash in on the 90s nostalgia.
2. It's the only way they can ever make up for the shit-stained dumpster fire that is Skylanders.

Ahah, Berserk was in my mind while painting, but as Dark Souls was influenced by Berserk, then Ill accept that link

You should check it out! I started with the 3 Golden Age films and was hooked on the manga afterwards. I try and get literally everyone into Berserk as it's such a fantastic series. Just be warned - it contains mature themes, both violent and sexual, so if youre easily triggered by things it might not be your thing.Β

Oh not at all ^_^ A friend of mine got me to read Golbin Slayer and I assume that's similar in some ways, and also recommended me to read it as well. I'll probably read Berserk at some point

Oh you'll be fine then. Obvs the best way to experience it is through the manga, so if you're already a manga fan then go right ahead. There's 40 volumes at the moment with no obvious end in sight, and has been going since 1990.
I know of Goblin Slayer - I think the only similarity is that it shares some dark themes. It's also been influenced by Berserk as well - I think there's a character in there which is an ode to Guts.
Try to keep away from any spoilers. It's best experienced without knowing anything. Once you're got through the Golden Age part (the manga starts in the future for 3 volumes and then has a flashback to the Golden Age which lasts 9-10) you're gonna have a 2 week hangover from the impact. I apologise in advance

I read all the horror stories in my school library at some point, so it kind of is exciting if you think I might get a 2 week hangover from it I read a lot more manga than I used to (mostly shounen
), so I think I will just read Berserk, maybe even watch some of the anime eventually. Everyone who knows me tells me to read it xD Maybe I really will enjoy this one.
On the side note I was wondering why I found your profile picture familiar, then I had a look at your gallery and realised I've already favourited some of your works already! I don't know why I hadn't watched, but I have now!

Ahh you know what, I'd actually recommend just watching the Golden Age films first anyway. As the manga starts in the future, I feel like it kinda ruins the impact of what happens in the past. Although Im sure some might disagree with me. But for me personally, going in blind was what really gave it such a powerful impact and turned me into such an obsessive fan, haha.
Yeah, I was the same, but with anime. Loved Naruto, FMA, and all that kinda stuff. Berserk was so completely the opposite to anything I'd ever read or seen.
Haha I hope you like it! You need to let me know!
You're very kind, thank you

In that case I'll try to watch the films first, and I'll let you know wha I think! I've been meaning to read Berserk anyway, but now I have even more incentive to, haha. I haven't read much new manga in a while, so it'll be nice to read something a little different. I still have one more exam to finish off before doing any of this though (chemistry exam at uni, unfortunately also in the morning....). My brother and I grew up watching Naruto since it was popular at the time, so it still holds a special place in my heart. FMAB, Code Geass and Stein's Gate are probably in my top ten (not that I've seen that many though).
I'm honoured that you'd go into so much for just a simple comment!

Haha, get me talking about Berserk and I'll never shut up Yeah, def make sure exams are a focus as you don't wanna be distracted by anything. It's weird as I was only introduced really to anime and such about 7 or 8 years ago, the first being FMA. I've never seen Brotherhood! Everyone tells me to go back and watch it (or read it!) which I do need to when I have time. I was hooked after FMA, then ending up falling into Death Note (which pissed me off halfway through. Wasn't as good after) The next major one was Naruto which really hooked me, although some of the fights kinda bored me. I'm not one who gets super excited about fight scenes, and although I appreciated the trickiness of them in Naruto, when it was fight after fight i just got bored and was desperate for more plot. It didn't help that the anime was FULL of constant flashbacks to make sure you remember what was going on!
But after everything, nothing has hit me and hooked me as much as Berserk.

I still haven't watched the Golden Age arc yet! I've been seriously behind on a lot of stuff (mostly my project and paintings). FMA brother is definitely worth the shot. I have read Death Note to the end and was disappointed what happened as well (I think everyone was haha). I'm pretty sure the first anime I ever got into was Naruto, because my cousin gave us some of the DvDs for the first season, up till Sasuke left Konoha I think. I read Naruto to the end and found a lot of the ninja war stuff boring as heck, and as you said, it really is just fight after fight. Good ol' Zabuza was probably what hooked me into the series when I first started watching it
I've definitely read more manga than the amount of anime I've seen, and I kind of prefer it sometimes to be honest. I'll have to find the time to watch through some Berserk, but I'll definitely give it a shot
(Sorry for the very late response haha. I kind of took a huge break from everything after that exam and just relaxed for an entire week )

Amazing work - the colours, the lighting, the landscape, and especially the ominous looking landscape. And of course anything involving dragons gets an instant plus point from me.
