Description How to turn your old Android devices into security cameras viewable anywhere, and all for free.

I wrote this tutorial, because i thought people would want to know how to do this. Having a secure home is always a plus, and this makes it easier.

I had to shrink the file size to half, for DA to accept it, so if it is pixelated, i am sorry, but i did make sure the QR codes are readable.

I don't know what you are asking. This just makes it like a webcam that is accessed through the internet. Why is there a link also, it doesn't seem to link to relevant material?

I'm confused. Why is this link here, and what does it have to do with my tutorial.

Can the Android webserver to connect Android based TVs?

I am a little confused by your question. If you have an Android powered tv and it has wireless access, (which it should or else it is pretty boring) then it will be able to preview any website. If for some reason the app isn't able to be put on the TV in any way, you can still go to the http://(random numbers for IP from each camera) in the browser and put in your log in information and view it from there.

But i assume you can get the app from the play store and configure it easily.

I don't have any Google TV's or Android based TV's or a box to hook up to a tv that runs android to test this. But i would assume any play store certified TV type item would be capable of using the proper apps required.

I have hooked up my tablet to my TV though, and it can access the video streams and display them on the tv, so it should be ok.

This is a phenomenally great idea! My wife and I each have an Android that we plan to replace soon, and now I know what we'll do with them. (But it will be MUCH easier because I'll know to install the webcam software BEFORE they get deactivated!)

This is a really great tutorial! I didn't know you could do this so simply, thanks!
But I'm having trouble viewing my cameras from outside my own WiFi area on my laptop. I can view it easily enough whilst I'm at home but from anywhere else it won't seem to connect. Can you give me some extra details on how to view my cameras from anywhere else?

you need to make sure you have your router set up for port forwarding. But since you tell me it works inside your WiFi, that tells me you are using the IP from your private connection and not public connection. If you think you have port forwarding set up already, then open a web browser and google what your public IP is. This is the one you should be using instead of the local private one. the numbers after the : on the port forward page in your router settings that point to each camera will be the same.

Tell me if this works for you.

You massively over complicated what is essentially a very simple process.
1. Get your android device that you wish to turn into a IP camera and install IP Webcam on it. [link]
2. Run IP Webcam and click the button on the main page, 'HOW DO I CONNECT'
3. Make a note of the IP address it gives you.
4. Open the menu on IP Webcam and select' Stream Image'
5. Go to any PC/Laptop that is capable of running javascript and enter the URL. Choose 'view through Java'. The image being captured will now be displaced. Make sure the Android device stays turned on (obviously)
6. Bookmark the URL.

except this won't let you view it outside of your WiFi connection. And it won't let other android devices to view it. You are not understanding why tutorials break down every little thing so that anyone can understand them.

fair enough mate. You did put in some good effort in posting this. I gave up after astro file manager failed to work on my HTC Hero.
