Description A watcher of mine suggested the idea. I don't have my pencils at the moment, forgive me, lol. I do like seeing the new species in the MLP AU. Even though Diamond dogs were only shown once, I believe they're an underrated species, or maybe they're just too anthro for MLP.

Anyway, I thought I'd make a quick sketch of some body types that I had thought might be in "their world". They're female in this one, and I thought there would be many classes of Diamond dogs, workers, builders, diggers, warriors, royalty, and nobles. I thought their society would be much like dwarves/orcs, using raw metals, stones, and gems.

What do you guys think the Diamond Dog society would be like? What other character classes would there be? maybe they would be enemies to the ponies.

I wished hasbro would done more with the diamond dogs and maybe like your image have different types based on domestic canines.

i still wish a bipedal wolf species was in mlp, perhaps country sharing border with dragons and the gryphons. However I would settle on diamond dogs but bit better design and variety than the show. Love how the fans drawn the diamond dogs much like with changelings

im afraid if they show up they depict them being primitive and greedy. I like to think that's just one small pack and others are more intelligent and sophisticated than them.

Hasbro and Discovery Family seems to do that a lot. Diamond dogs, zebras, changelings, and so on. Everything so focused on pony culture but they don't seem to try branch out for other races. When they do it shows they aren't as sophisticated as ponies with kingdoms they come from looking primitive. Gryphons are good example of that. and yaks.

That's true, before headcanon of most changelings where ruined, fans had created tone of lore around them. Though people still prefer their own over the new ones.

so much better they could done with changelings, such as other hives that disapprove of chrysalis after invasion. Hell even some redesigns of the original changeling showing bit more variants of the changelings. something fans did better job with.

for diamond dog society I see it like this,

There would be many tribes/packs, Lead by a alpha, the strongest, Wisest and the wealthiest would lead a pack, For rules in the pack, I can see the breed of the Dog would depend on their rules,

Examples
Warriors: Bulldog, Doberman, German Shepherd and Rottweiler

Hunter: Husky, Beagles and bloodhounds

Mages: Poodles

Everyone else: Mining, Smiting and Stone carving

Their culture would be somewhat a tribal steam punk, They would have a good grasp on technology, Just they would be in their in the start of their industrial age. They all ready getting mining and smiting tools down but they would be creating early prototype of steampunk trains and other tech

Due to living underground they would be master stone cravers and Smiths, They would be more focus on trade with other species, Like the ponies. The Ponies would establish trade with Diamond dogs who created proto cities, Their cities would be stone carve buildings, with a system of steam pipes to power the homes

The Diamond Dogs would have nobles, these Nobles would gain their power through ownership of Mines or Trading Companies. For the Leadership.

They would be lead by the Alpha, In old days He or She would be the packs strongest, Now in these Proto cities, The Alpha would be the wisest and wealthiest. The Alpha would make laws and enforce them.

I can also seeing the Diamond Dogs taming many subterminal Wildlife, Either as for pets or guard beasts.

For conflict the Diamond Dogs would be more netural staying out of wars to keep their trade routes, Only to fight when they are force to

Other times Diamond Dogs would be hostile is when some become bandits

One of the diamond dogs on the left looks different from my Elven Canine species that has long ears like a lop and a long tail like a possum (but it's not hairless); although the tail is good to use as either for hanging upside down like a possum or used as a weapon (like a whip or a pierce like a scorpion tail). 10% of the males in my universe are hotheaded, and 90% of the females are hotheaded (not in the good way if you call them a colony of rodents or vermins). And yes, some are short; others are human sized.

Peteman12 [2016-05-21 10:06:59 +0000 UTC]

I don't think Diamond Dogs would inherently be enemies to ponies given they live in vastly different locations so the opportunity to cross paths is minimal.

Suggestion: Foo Dogs could exist as a sorcerous sub breed (I know the original myths are technically lions).

Personally, I like the species as a whole to be referred to as Rockhounds and the Diamond Dogs are actually just the name of a violent gang.

Rock hounds sounds cool, maybe that could be another species of them, like how unicorns and ponies are generally the same.

On my part, I view the common diamond dogs to be militaristic, assertive and hierarchical in nature, but at the same time ignorant and a bit naive. If you ask a common diamond dog why they are creating weapons/why he is guarding this post/why he is fighting the enemy/why he kidnaps ponies/why he mine gems, the most common answers would be because it is work or it is because it is what I do. They are pretty good at catching, understanding and putting into practice instructions and orders given to them but they have little grasp or care little to what the instructions or orders are meant to do or be. One can see that behavior and way of thinking in the comics and a bit in the show too where the diamond dogs are able to create armors and weapons, mine gems(I mean mining does need some good engineering to plot out those tunnels and prevent a cave in), are able to create castles and are pretty knowledgeable when it comes to basic law and order, however they also don't know why those laws are created, where their mined gems are traded too or what is even a regime. One could say that they are both mature yet also child-like in mentality.
However like in real life, dogs are bred differently and not all dogs are the same. Their leaders, diplomats, generals, advisors and dogs of importance are different and are more capable of planning and sorting out problems and dilemna's that their race/pack face. They are not easily fooled or led around by other dogs and by other race's as well as evidenced by Rover, a brute of a leader able to assert his authority on Rarity(for some time) while Jim(diplomat dog on the comic) is able to fool Trixie into wearing the crown of subjugation and installing her as their queen so she can use her magic to find them more gems. Another intelligent dog and a favorite is the OC diplomat DD from diamond dog embassy, you should check it out. Its cute and stuff.

Overall they are a quirky yet powerful race as I imagine, with clashing characteristics, weird priorities yet self-assured of themselves and their kind in the overall scheme of things.

PS: Hasbro and the animators are really wasting the potentials of DD's. I hope they show more of their kind in the future episodes or seasons.

Yeah, very little was shown about their culture or even why they want the gems at all. I believe they eat them like spike does, but that's just guessing. They are industrious and have structures (in the caves), a good knowledge of metallurgy with their weapons, and a class system with guards and leaders. To me I tend to believe that couldn't be all of there culture, if so why have jails or armor?

A friend of mine plays war hammer, but I could never follow it. There are so many species and classes, and they always had new ones coming out. Each character had it's own back story etc. it takes a lot to get started.

The animation was cool though. I still had no idea what was going on. lol!
