There is a scene in Tales from the Crypt Demon Knight where the demon is trying to convince the new female protagonist that he loves her and he just can't say the word love. It physically makes him sick. Every time I read panel 5 I can't help but think of that scene, which is kind of frustrating because in Demon Knight it was kind of funny. Damn my unnatural reference seeking mind! Shall I never be rid of you!?
That last panel though! My god it gets me right in the feels. There's nothing like watching your first spawn grow up to go terrorize the masses and finding his own unique way to do it. To really spread his jaws wide and devour the sanity of others without training wheels. To fly like fire and death and be his own horror. A mother worries, a mother always worries-- there are knights and priests and white wizards in the world my son, beware. But at some point every spawn has to metamorphosise and start out on his own path of destruction.
