Interesting. I had always heard the second verse as:
Some gave them white bread, and some gave them brown;
Some gave them [I don't recall this bit], and cast them out of town.
Differing views of the monarchy, I suppose.

You are right, this is why I put the '[...]' mark, and the second part was written someting like 100 years later in late XVIII century I think.
