Just a compilation of the single steps I usually use to complete a drawing.

As you see it's a rather simple process, beginning with a badly drawn traditional sketch on paper (1). All details and the outlines are drawn in the last step (4).
A long time ago I used to start with the outlines, but I realized that it's much easier to start with some rough blocks of color (2), because this way I'm able to simply change the silhouette and pose without needing to redraw the outlines over and over again.

If you have a color palette that doesn't seem to go together perfectly, add some layers with ambient lights and shadows. These additional layers will tone the color palette homogenously, bringing the colors closer together and giving the overall impression that they match (That's a bit how colors in reality work. You never see the plain color of an object. You always see the toning of its color affected by ambience).
But be careful not to overdo the ambience or you'll end up with the opposite effect and everything will look off.
