Fili stopped in his tracks and listened. There it was again, a faint whimper.
The first time he heard it had been when he was sneaking his way out of the throne room.
Standing by and watching silently as his parents were having politic conversations with seemingly every single lord attending the festivities had gotten quite boring very soon, so he had taken his chance when it came. Exploring this foreign place – nothing less than a king’s palace in this matter – promised to be much more of an exciting task after all.

And as soon as he had heard it, Fili found his new assignment in finding the source of the silent whimpering that echoed through the hallways.
He was surprised when he discovered a small boy sitting at the foot of a set of stairs, crying and sniffling.
“Hey, what’s wrong, why are you crying?” The sniffling paused and the dark haired child looked up as Fili slowly approached, big brown and puffy eyes met blue ones.
Fili recalled seeing the little boy in the hall of the Great Sept of Baelor yesterday. It was during the wedding ceremony when he had spotted him shyly hiding behind his mother’s skirt. The wedding of the new king of the seven kingdoms, Robert Baratheon who had won the rebellion against the mad king Aerys II Targaryen, was also the reason why he and his family were here. With the new queen being none other than Cercei – daughter of Tywin, head of House Lannister – it went without question that his father – Vili Lannister, Lord of Lannisport and head of the cadet branch of the Lannisters – would be invited as well, even though it was just a matter of formalities.
Fili remembered the little boy and his family clearly because they had stood out greatly in the mass of opulent, fine dressed people. Their garment had looked much more plain and simple and the way they acted seemed more genuine unlike the common farce most people in kings landing appeared to display – at least from what Fili could tell as he watched them from a distance.

“Did your fall down the stairs?” Fili tried again as the boy just kept sniffling, staring up at him with watery eyes. When he crouched down to the boy he noticed a hint of bruised and bleeding skin on his right knee where the cloth of his trousers was torn.
“I- I got lost… I want to my mother…” came the quiet response, the boy’s voice hitching as new tears poured over his cheeks.
“There, there. It’s alright, don’t cry.” Fili tried to console him, gently rubbing the smaller boy’s back. “I’m sure your mother is not far away. Come on, I’ll help you searching.” He stood up when the boy had calmed down a little, offering a hand to the boy, before adding with a grin, “And I dare say I am very good at finding things, otherwise I wouldn’t have found you.”
Hesitantly for a moment but the tears finally run dry the boy accepted his help and Fili pulled him to his feet.
“There you go.” Fili smiled. “Want to tell me your name? It would make searching a little easier.” The boy looked unsure back to him.
“Alright, then I’ll just call you Little One.” Fili said when he did not get an answer and went to ruffle through the boy’s hair. Though he was surprised at the younger’s reaction as his hand was batted away.
“Noo, don’t do that! I hate that! Robb does that the whole time to mock me.”
The older had difficulties to hide his amusement at the big scowl that adorned the child’s face.
“Okay, okay, I’m sorry little one. It was not my intention to make fun of you.”

“And I’m not little,” the boy demanded with folded arms, probably would have stomped his foot down as well to make this point clear if his knee wouldn’t be hurt at the moment, Fili thought. “I’m Kili Stark.”
“Oh, my apologies, Kili, son of House Stark.” Fili bowed in a playful manner, “May I offer you to ride on my back while we’re off for the search to make up for my mistake?”
It amazed Fili how quick Kili was able to change between moods. In a matter of seconds the deep scowl in his face disappeared and the small boy was beaming in excitement. It took not even a second before Kili agreed.
“Oh, and my name’s Fili by the way. Fili Lannister, at your service.” He said as he crouched down so that Kili could climb on his back.
The whole ride Kili just kept smiling and laughing in joy when Fili pretended to stumble over something, giving Kili a good shaking on his back in that process. At some point the younger started humming and swinging his legs happily at Fili’s sides and even though it made it more difficult for Fili to keep a hold at Kili, he just smiled and hummed along.
Being an only child he had always wished for a little brother, and now it almost felt like his wish had been granted to him.

Wow, the story part this time got much longer than I had planned. Again this was written after I had drawn the picture.

So, I finally picked up again my crossover idea with Game of Thrones and The Hobbit from about half a year ago. (see and read more about it here: floridecuts.tumblr.com/post/14… )
I’ve planned to draw a few more pictures to this with written parts, telling the story I have thought of so far. This would be the first part, the story how Fili and Kili met each other in Kings Landing when they were children. I imagined Fili to be around 10 years old and Kili 6 years old.
It really took me a while to think of a possibility where both of them could have met and forge such a strong bond. After all, Lannisport and Winterfell are pretty far away from each other and you don’t just go on such a journey that takes weeks from one point to the other for no important reason. But the wedding ceremony and coronation of the new king of Westeros would be important and I think (hope) it also fits to the timeline of the story.
If anyone feels inspired to pick up the crossover idea for themselves and make their own story with it you’re welcome to do so. It would be amazing if there was more art/fictions/etc. about that crossover.
I hope you could enjoy this whether you know Game of Thrones or not. I apologize if there's any mistakes in the written story part, english is not my first language. In case you find any mistakes feel free to point them out to me.

I hope I will be able to finish the next part until next weekend.
