Havent read a Spawn comic in years but still have a great fondness for all the McFarlane and Capullo/McFarlane issues.

Nice one.

I'm totally with you in the haven't-read-Spawn-in-years-but-dug-the-early-stuff camp. I must say, Capullo kinda sucked at first, his style just didn't suit the book, but after a while his style meshed with McFarlane's beautifully and they did some brilliant work. Far better than either of them could have done solo. The story was often average to poor, but the art was awesome.

I didn't even know Portacio was working on it these days...

but how cool was it when he got Moore, Gaiman, Sim and Miller to write consecutive issues. I was about 14 then... what a great time to be a kid into comics

theyve got a website for the new spawn stuff called spawn:endgame here: [link]

Those four "critic's choice" issues of Spawn were very cool (although Miller's was a bit weak, I thought). I think McFarlane recognised the need for strong writers! I was 17 at the time and had been collecting comics for only a couple of years. As you said, those days were a brilliant time to be into comics. Getting into a lot of stuff on the ground floor.

Thanks for the new Spawn link. Looking very interesting...

yeah i think a lot of people had the same initial reaction to capullo doing spawn. Everyone wanted McFarlane back as the penciller and everyone still does! Capullo did some awesome stuff on Spawn though, no doubt about it. Havent seen much of Whilce's Spawn but wasnt impressed by what I did see really... I used to really dig portacio back when he came out with wetworks (halcyon days of image or what! hehe) but havent felt compelled to follow him on anything much since then.
