Name: Due North
Gender: Female
Age: Died when she was an adult, hasn't changed much since then-- She's been around for at least a few hundred years as a spirit, but doesn't remember the exact duration (in years, at least). [Anywhere between 500-750 years spent as a spirit; She's really fucking old, basically]

Weight: Below average.
Born in: Due to her age, and the indefinite timeline in which the cities of present day Equestria were created, Due can only speculate; She came from an area near/around what is now considered Canterlot, if not directly in it.
Lives in: Though she is not entirely bound to the place of her death, and finds herself wishing to travel very often, Due has built a 'home' for herself on the edge of the frozen north-- Reluctant to return home, after all of these years.
Occupation: Prior to her death, North was a cartographer; Devoted to creating accurate, beautiful maps that could help other ponies with a taste for adventure find places that hadn't been explored yet. She additionally gathered rare goods from the areas that she visited, and sold them in order to supplement her income further. As of now, and for the time since her passing, she serves as a 'guide'-- Deliberately forcing others away from the North for their own safety.
"Brief" History/Backstory: Prior to her death Due was a fairly privileged unicorn born to a doting unicorn mother and aloof yet stern unicorn father; Her status (rich, potentially related to royalty/noble names in Equestrian history) allowed her to get away with a lot-- Coupled with her innate desire to explore/adventure, Due spent a great deal of her younger years getting in and out of trouble with the locals in her "village". She loved her parents and siblings dearly, but found herself suffering for years on end after discovering her talent because she wasn't allowed to fully explore all she believed she was capable of doing for the rest of the land-- Which left her just a little sore for a time after she left home 'for good'. (She came back after about a year away from home).
Meeting Briolett happened a few years after she started to travel for work, and their courtship marked the point at which Due started to take her 'job' more seriously; At Briolett's request, she began to remake older maps in order to give them to the pony in charge of records in town, and made certain to make copies of every map she made from then on. After a few years of her family expressing distress over the continuation of their family legacy, and after Briolett voiced her support of the idea, the pair wed and prepared (over the span of at least two or three years) to adopt a foal-- Though the opportunity didn't present itself until Due encountered a young filly at the edge of the White Tail Woods who claimed to be 'alone for a very long time'. She offered a home for the filly, whos mane was so unkempt/long that her species was unclear, and brought her back with her-- Much to Briolett's confusion and delight. Figuring out her species involved the entire family moving around Equestria for a few months, but wound up being pretty understandable. A small Pertyon colony (including her father [an adventuring equestrian unicorn]) deep within the White Tail Woods had been attacked, and their numbers had scattered-- Leaving the filly without a heritage to speak of, as far as her parents were aware.
Rather than go back on the job immediately, Due spent a fair amount of time at home with her daughter and wife-- But soon the call of adventure and the urge to find what had yet to be found became too strong, and though they didn't like it-- Her family supported her as she once more took to the road.
She died in a really stupid way at the foot of Mount Everhoof closer to the Yaket range, and from then on has been watching the world develop from an outsiders perspective; There have been times when she's traveled as close to Canterlot as she could muster, but for the most part her life post death has been. Uneventful. Due to her nature, and the fact that she poses no threat to ponykind in her universe, she's been permitted to exist peacefully. She's observed her familys growth throughout the ages-- A fair amount of Canterlot nobility can attribute their good standing to one of Due's bloodline in present day Equestria, but a lot of her true descendants are no longer alive.
Relationships:
- Briolett Brooch [Name needs work tbh, ref to be added sooner or later] [Spouse, Pegasus]: A down to earth pegasus with an eye for gemstones/precious metals and a heart of gold. She first met Due when the young mare came into her shop asking if she had anything that she could trade for a few stones she'd found while out in the field-- After a few more meetings, Due began dropping by more and more frequently-- Often showering the other with gifts (of "precious" stones) that were well meant but virtually useless to Briolett, given their size and shape. One day, after Due brought by a particularly large bag of stones, she explained that she still had stones from weeks ago that she didn't know what to do with. Due, hurt by this, initially made to go-- Only to have the other reach across the counter and ask if she'd like to go out for dinner instead, as there was a pony across the way who would gladly buy the stones as they were. After years of dating, the two finally agreed to elope-- Marrying during the winter, in a ceremony that brought both families together. The stone pieces on Due's mane and tail/the pendant she bears on her neck were all gifts from Briolett, and have since been lost in snow and ice-- Much to Due's dismay. She is rumored to be of Saddle Arabian descent, at least partially, but she never confirmed or denied it when she was alive. [Yes, she is]
- Day Dream [Adopted Daughter, "Unicorn" ]: Taken in at a young age by both Briolett and Due, Day Dream had always been given as much love as her parents could muster collectively. She was fairly aggressive as a child, and hard to handle at times-- Coupled with her budding magical affinity, Day Dream proved to be a real challenge for Briolett and Due to take care of. Due took on the duty of teaching her child how to harness her magical skill from an early age-- Given that she didn't believe the local population of unicorns would enjoy her daughter's habitual horn rubbing or general disregard for common courtesy. Dream was a pony with a sunny disposition despite her aggression problems, who displayed the same yearning for adventure as North-- Only with a better sense of self preservation, thanks to Briolett. She grew up to become a talented illusionist who dabbled in music, and moved from place to place before coming back home to Canterlot-- Though after Briolett's passing it's said that she may have moved elsewhere in Equestria. She's of mixed species descent (Equestrian Unicorn + Pertyon). [This will be expanded upon in her own personal reference page-- Her appearance varies fairly far from the normal appearance of unicorns in the mlp canon, and shes. got wings?? maybe, but that will be. finalized when her info page is up. Species trait, it's complicated.]
Personality:
- Prior to her passing, Due was a pony that was very full of herself-- Believing that she was infallible, and that any obstacle could be conquered if the pony was actually good enough to handle the challenge. She frequently overestimated herself, and relied heavily on help from those she considered friends-- To the point that some simply gave up on her, after too many close calls and mishaps, moving on to pastures that were greener and less wrought with danger. Due could handle a lot of stress very well at one time, but frequently relieved said stress in less than ideal manners, and denied responsibility for any damage she caused after the fact (despite paying up for it in the end, of course). Those that stuck with her through thick and thin had a special place in her heart; And for them, she'd do anything. Her reckless nature bled into her actions on their behalf, and she'd often shower them with everything she could give at the time; Doing anything to keep them well, and to make them happy. Despite her general air, she cared with all her might-- Hoping that they would do the same for her.
- As a spirit, Due has grown quiet; Hundreds of years spent watching the world around you grow and change does that to a pony, you know? She's come to be a very withdrawn, stoic figure-- The only time this demeanor changes is when she's trying to help a pony escape her own fate, at which point she often speaks in a softer tone, gently manipulating the other into leaving before it becomes too late for them. Under her stoic guise is a pony who is very, very bitter-- Angry, for lack of a better term. She hates herself for letting her death happen, and for hurting those that loved her-- She even hates the fact that she can't seem to figure out how to move on, to an extent. If one were to spend enough time around her, she'd break down and admit her feelings-- But she's been building up defenses for a very long time, getting her to that point would require months of time and patience.
Cutiemark: A compass rose.
What it Represents: Her talent in navigation/mapmaking and her prior desire to help others learn about and explore areas of Equestria they otherwise would have never known about, basically.
How was it Obtained: She earned it at a young age, after having assisted newcomers to her town find their way around with the help of the crudely drawn maps she made-- Frequently handing off freshly drawn ones covered in childish scribbles that still somehow managed to be legible in favor of ones that were drafted earlier; Simply because they weren't 100% accurate. She can't quite recall the point at which her mark came in, but after that day she realized it was there and immediately poured herself into becoming the best she could be in that field.
Okay, that's great and all, but. How the fuck did she die????: Oh man, here we go. Due, along with a small party of trusted companions, made the journey to the very edge of Equestria-- Up until they reached the edge of the Frozen North. Due insisted they press forward, but her party members refused-- Indignant and too proud to go back, she took all of the supplies she could carry and set forth into the mountains, confident that she'd be able to handle it on her own.
She spent well over a week out in the cold, gradually running out of food, water, and energy-- The mountain range proved too difficult to cross entirely without the help of others, and in her delirious state she was unable to make her way out before she, you know. Died of exposure/starvation, alone and angry-- At herself, at her situation.
Species traits [Unicorn + Ghost]: As a unicorn, Due had a fair amount of magical ability; Mostly pertaining to the manipulation of multiple smaller objects at a time, given her chosen field of expertise. Her magic color bore the same tone as her cutiemark and her eyes, and was considered the "average" magic user for her time. She did have a larger pool of magical ability, but never had the time or motivation to fully explore what her abilities were capable of. After her passing, her magic is represented by a less saturated pink aura.
As a ghost, Due utilizes her magic in order to interact with the world around her. This behavior would normally come across as lazy, but it takes a great deal of physical exertion for her to interact physically with the world around her. By drawing from what magical reserves she has left over within herself, Due can manipulate up to moderate-sized items with a fair amount of speed-- In exchange for control. She can generate light from her horn as well, but typically only uses this to guide ponies out from her space-- As she doesn't benefit personally from the use of it.
In addition to the facts stated above, Due almost seems to be weightless-- Disconnected from the earth, hovering at least a foot off of the ground at any given time. Though there isn't much around to let her see it, her body is very, very faintly transparent-- If one were to attempt to touch her, their hoof would pass through her body entirely, and if she were to attempt to touch someone her hoof would do much the same.
It should be noted that in this AU Magic is not tied to the physical body, but to the soul of the pony and the world around them-- Every living thing has some form of magic within them, and Due as a spirit absorbs and draws magic into her 'self'. Every new life she's exposed to allows her to grow a little stronger, but her personality as a pony leaves her at a relatively well regulated level of magical capacity-- She's not fully aware of how this latent absorption works, but doesn't complain.
Miscellaneous:
- Because she is, in fact, a ghost, Due still speaks in an antiquated manner-- She's very articulate, and has a bit of an accent when she actually manages to speak. Modern phrases/mentions of current events will definitely make 0 sense to her and she'll probably just outright tell you if you aren't getting the point across.
- Her universe is a definite canon divergence/au, though there are parts of her story that relate back to the time before Equestria was created-- When she was alive, her family had a lot of prestige, and were rumored to be descendants of Clover the Clever-- Though that was never actually proven, and the potential relation has never been investigated further.
- Her family was almost entirely made up of unicorns, up until the point that she brought Briolett into the mix, and they were very reluctant to become close with the pegasus until after Due's death-- A fact that she isn't aware of, and more than likely never will be.
- Prior to her death, she had learned bits and pieces of several languages; The details have long since escaped her, but she responds with familiarity if a pony speaks a language other than the common Equestrian tongue.
- She can see fairly well without her glasses, and sort of?? needs to be able to do so, because the glasses she used to wear are long gone.
- Despite the fact that she can't eat anything, she claims to 'feel' hungry at all times.
- Her maps, though antiquated, can be found in libraries all over Equestria; To a scholar with an interest in the geographical history of their homeland, Due North's work is invaluable. All of her works were marked as hers by a very specific stamp at the center-- A simplified compass rose (like her cutiemark) -- and her signature.
- She has a soft spot for Pegasi and Unicorns, and doesn't really like Earth ponies much at all. Sorry, folks.
- Potion/magical effects cannot affect her, but Due had a run-in with poison joke on her travels that left her completely unable to walk in a straight line/see straight and quite literally led to her falling off of an (admittedly short) cliff-- She dabbled in herbalism for a few months afterward, 'just in case'.
