Description

“A simplified derivative of the Magnus, chambered for rifle rounds by renowned Tenno gunsmiths Deschain and Haruka Lorne. This Tenno revolver uses Sentient substrate to analyze a target’s weaknesses and set up for the perfect headshot. It was a common sight during the Tenno Great Hunt.”

Special Traits

Headseeker - Body shots increase damage by 15% (up to 45%) on headshots. Does guaranteed status procs on headshots regardless of build.
Chromatic Rounds: Changes damage type based on energy color.

An experimental Tenno revolver chambered for rifle rounds, built on the far fringe of Orokin dominion. According to some writings, it was a status symbol among the Zhujun network of dojos and void monitoring stations that guarded the ever-shifting imperial borders against enemies, Sentient and Separatist alike. Moreso than many Tenno weapons, the Callan serves as a symbol of a unique cause:

Tenno independence.

It was designed by Tenno, for Tenno, with no input from larger Orokin manufactories.

Much like the Ostium battle rifle, it was created by shaping Sentient Bone to a weapon frame, and grafting on a firing mechanism - in this case, a flip-top revolver frame designed by Tenno gunsmith Haruka Lorne that had yet to be tested for mass production. The Sentient Bone in question came from a broken Sentient sword.

As is common with hybrid Sentient weapons, the adaptive properties of the active-nanomachine and ceramite substrate that make up Sentient Bone transferred into the function of the weapon. Analysis from Kronia Relay’s Ballistics Lab shows that the Sentient Bone self-heals to secure the revolver while firing - an unsurprising advantage, given that Lorne herself had discarded the flip-top frame for its fragility. The precepts within Sentient Bone allow it to build up headshot damage after repeated body shots, and deals +100% bonus status chance on headshots.

Changing the energy color of this weapon changes the base elemental damage, a feature devised by the Tenno gunslinger Deschain for the specific purpose of increased status or ensuring maximum performance with Riven mods. This feature took direct inspiration from other pieces of captured Sentient technology, such as the "pelt" worn by Chroma.

It’s rumored that Haruka Lorne later used the techniques used in the construction of the Callan to create the Depezador and Naga - which, despite their lower base damage and status, have unparalleled ability to crit, limited self-repair, and similar properties on headshots.

Predictably, the Orokin didn’t like it. Or rather, they disliked the fact that the Zhujun dojos were developing independently of them.  It was not the first (or last) time this would happen.

In the Old War, those Tenno, Dax, Grineer, and serfs assigned to the network of dojos and monitoring stations near Jupiter and within the rings of Saturn were often left to their own devices, going weeks or even months without any real communication from the higher-ups. As long as the Tenno protected shipments from Corpus and other fledgling quasi-states on the fringes of the Orokin Empire and guarded the Inner planets and Outer Belt from Sentient incursions, there was no issue. And, due to Orokin fears of anything falling outside their grasp, the defense forces in the hearts of the Empire, near Deimos, Earth, and Mars had preferential treatment. They received Prime equipment, synaptic oscillators, customized Void Amplifier devices, (commonly known among Ostrons and Quills as Amps) and even Prime Railjacks and Chiruge-class ships, while the defenders along the fringe made do with whatever they could.

As with many Orokin decisions, it backfired - in this atmosphere, the Tenno and their allies were allowed to flourish, developing their own cultures and styles. Thus, various improvised or frontier-built Tenno weapons became commonplace - and, as relationships developed with fledgling states that would eventually blossom in the Thaw Cultures, instances of policing actions against Corpus, the Oeizu, and Buyan would eventually dwindle to nothing.

Even to modern-day Grineer or Corpus officers, who are rarely known for their tactical acumen, this would seem like a startlingly inept decision - but then, for a culture of immortality that spawned far-seeing monastic orders such as the Oracles of Saturn and the Quills, the Orokin displayed a surprising lack of foresight.

Artist notes:

This reloads like a Mauser Zig-Zag, as you can see in the (admittedly crude) drawing at the bottom. I freely admit that doesn’t make much sense for a powerful revolver, but in my defense I’ve done virtually every revolver loading mechanism. I’ve done top-break, (Depezador, Estampida) that weird thing the Wingman does where it takes itself apart, the cylinder swinging out at a 45 degree to the pistol, that thing the revolver does in Deus Ex, and cylinder replacement like on a Remington 1858.

...Admittedly, I haven't done one with a swing-out cylinder, but Warframe already has two of those and that's pretty normal already so whatev.
The cylinder admittedly doesn't make that much sense (though I have seen something similar in the Tibbert revolving rifle, but the bullets weren't quite as long.

I guess the one thing I can say about this is that most of it is just for the sake of fun. I suppose this could fit with Jado's Legion of Tau concept, but he's not been too active on that one lately.

This was the most popular pistol in the recent dump of Warframe pistol concepts I made! The next most popular one was another revolver, but I think the next one should be an energy weapon. I need to mix up my assortment of weapons, cause I have a tendency to just get wrapped up in just making revolvers, shotguns, and assault rifles.

(Though the drawing immediately after this will be pony. Probably. And maybe the one after that, cause why not.)
