it's been a while since the last gem knight au infodump. Meet Muffet! Her gem is rose quartz and she is in charge of the kingdom's surveillance and messaging system. Her spiders are connected to her by her magic web and monsters can send each other short messages by giving a note to one of them. Of course, all messages go through Muffet first. Most of them are nothing really that interesting, but if she finds anything that could disturb the peace on the island or strike hopelessness in the hearts of the citizens, she does not let the message go through and reports it to Asriel. In addition, her spiders keep a watchful eye on the entire kingdom and are able to send a distress signal to Muffet. It takes some focus, but she can see through the eyes of one of her spiders at a time. During this time she does not see through her own eyes, of course. Her spiders are forbidden by law to enter private houses, but she has permission to ignore certain laws if she believes it will serve everyone's safety. Because the alchemist labs are technically not fully private, Muffet knows about the amalgamates , but she chose not to tell anyone about it, because such knowledge might be too disturbing and would endanger the already fragile hope.

She knows (almost) everything about everybody. She's a background player, but a very vital one. She controls what happens to any kind of information and likely has some kind of blackmail on everyone.

it's the tradeoff for a fast response from the knights when danger appears. Her spiders (spyders?) don't report mundane things. Surveillance does make things a bit tense, but in the face of everything, monsters agreed to having such a system implemented, although with some (understandable) reluctance. Reminder that this world is not safe i suppose.
