Description
I woke at dawnto see garbage
growing out of the lawn.
“How curious,”
I thought
trying to listen for sound
over technology
tearing
up the ground.
Where daisy’s
had grown before,
I saw a hole
and knocked on its door,
somewhere from behind
his newspaper
a rabbit answered;
“Come in,
make yourself at home”.
Inside was littered
with simple things
long since seen -
a candle in place
where a lamp should’ve been.
“Why is everything so bizarre?”
I asked him
“on the contrary”
he replied
“everything is ordinary as ever.”
I protested;
"but never before were beaches
composed of aluminium
nor the waves
a cocktail of waste"
The rabbit gave
a knowledgeable grin.
While my back burned red
as the sun did rise
he said;
“this morning, dear friend,
you opened your eyes.”
I looked up and saw
There was a tear in the sky.
