Description
So... I've been not-so-secretly working on doing some coding for Inkscape, and I finally was able to make some changes which can help pony vectorers!! The changes that I made help make powerstrokes (Inkscape's "stroke width" tool) more usable (possibly even moreso than Illustrator, but don't let any Illustrator user hear thatThis is an adorably hillarious vector of AJ, which I did simply because she doesn't get enough love... I gave myself the challenge of vectoring all of the images of her in the MLP wikia, although I doubt that I'll actually do that
Anyhow, I hope you like it and feel free to critique!! Svg can be found here (Inkscape 0.49 required): [link]
If you do use this (or any of my other artwork), please let me know so I can check out what you make with it!

Would it be alright if I used this to make a base? Credit, of course.

Sitting here, a month and a half later, and I just burst out laughing when I spotted this. How did I not see this before. Amazing.

Great vector, you don't happen to have a reference shot do you? I'm curious as to where this came from.

Thanks!! I used this image of Twilight from the mlp wikia as a reference: [link] . It is quite a hilarious pose, I pretty much had to vector it when I saw it

I know that feeling! Also, I should probably look into customizing Inkscape, the vanilla version is starting to get a bit clunky...

It's awesome that Inkscape has stroke width profiles now! That was one of only things that was keeping me with Illustrator. Maybe soon I won't need to "tolerate" Illustrator's unique personality anymore

Haha, what's the other thing? I'm still working on developing a pony-centric version of Inkscape, so any suggestions on how to make it easier to use would be really cool! And yep, the latest version of Inkscape has something similar to the stroke-width tool which is absolutely amazing! It's a bit tricky to work with, which is why I started working on modifying it to make it easier for pony vector artists

A pony-specific version of Inkscape does sound extremely cool. I can't wait to see it
I'm not sure what this is called, if it's even been given a specific name. Basically, in the layers pane/window, Illustrator shows not only the layers, but the individual paths and groups inside of layers as well. So while Inkscape only lets you lock/hide entire layers, AI lets you lock/hide individual paths and groups as well: [link]
It's nothing even remotely pony-specific, but instead one of those things that if you use it, it becomes dangerously addictive to the point where it's hard to function without it. Mostly because of how simple it makes certain tasks - adding/removing paths to/from groups, changing z-order, moving paths between layers, etc - all simple because you just select the individual path/group you need and drag it up or down to where you need it. The locking/hiding individual paths helps too, because if you're editing a path, you can lock the other nearby ones to avoid accidentally clicking on them.

Actually, those two things (layers and stroke-width tool) were the exact reason why I started looking into further developing Inkscape... They're the two most common complaints I've heard, and the two that I personally think need the most work. At least in the new version of Inkscape you can finally drag and drop the layers, but I'm probably going to try to do something similar to what AI does with the layers by showing all of the paths. It always bugged me that to switch the layer that a certain path is on in Inkscape you need to either cut and paste it, or move it one layer at a time. Dragging and dropping from one layer to another would be so much more efficient and makes so much more sense. I'm also thinking of looking into creating a "lock clipping mask" feature, which keeps an objects clipping mask in place while you move it, which would be really helpful for repositioning eyes. If you have any other suggestions, feel free to let me know! The possibilities are pretty much endless ([link] )

Ok, I can't tell you how awesome that sounds! I definitely can't wait to see this now! Inkscape's got a ton of awesome features and functionality, and is very user friendly, but does lack a few things that makes Illustrator more attractive. Though if you're bring the best of Illustrator to Inkscape, then you'll probably end up with the ultimate vectoring tool
I'm not much an application programmer, but if there's anything non-programming related on this project that you could use a hoof with, I'd be happy to contribute.

I've been using power strokes more and more lately thanks to your bringing them to my attention, so this is definitely positive news!
Nice AJ vector by the way.

Thanks!! And yay, I'm glad other people have been using power strokes I'm definitely releasing my modded version of Inkscape, probably tomorrow, which makes powerstrokes a ton easier to use

Hey man, I was just fiddling with my latest vector project, and I suddenly remembered you mentioning this. I was curious if it had worked out! (Sorry if you posted something about this and I just missed it, ah's just wondering.)

Well, i'm an illustrator user but i think i will have to at least give inkscape another go, there can be no harm in knowing how to use two vector programs, right? Also, you found my weakness, AJ definitely needs more love

Aww yay, she definitely does If you want to give Inkscape another go, I will most likely be releasing my modded version tomorrow, and probably doing a livestream tutorial on how to use the new features
