I decided to try out a more cartoony style of shading this time. I really like how the legs came out. ^_^Edit: Better hair shading.

The leg shading actually looks pretty good in this style! I think the mane shading is a bit too dark. Here's something to try - instead of shading with shades of gray/black, try shading with either a darker colour (like dark yellow/orange/red) so the resulting shadows are coloured more naturally. By putting shading on a different layer, you can also play with the layer modes/opacities until it looks right.

My shading is always on a different layer.
I also realized after I finished this that I might want to try a different blending type for my shade layers such as multiply or overlay, because they preserve the color better, but it was 2am. ^_^
