Not enough trios in metal these days (Anvil, Motorhead, Immortal, Tourniquet, Mortification, Whiplash, are all I can really think of right now that are still around).
The only thrash trios I can think of are the underlined ones. And Tourniquet only became a trio later in their career and uses studio musicians when they reduced, though their drummer, Ted Kirkpatrick*, does a lot of the bass and extra guitars himself.
*Don't let the fact that that band is Christian fool you, he is a monster drummer:
