Description All right, I know I said no more Beatles drawings for a while, but I found this drawing I did months ago languishing in my English Literature notebook. So in honor of my Starrchild =OvechkinPotter 's birthday, I decided to post it.

It's a drawing of John Lennon from the cover of the "Power to the People/Open Your Box" single. Because really, if I had to chose one Beatle in one time period to be my favorite, it would be scruffy, early-1970s, adorable activist John. From when I was very small, I knew that John wanted peace and justice and equality for everyone, and listening to his songs really shaped my worldview. And they are still as beautiful and relevant today as they were when he wrote them.

Life is good. Classes ended on Friday. I'm going to India about a month from now. Unfortunately, I'm also suffering from having hit a bit of an artistic brick wall, so.... there's that.

Thank you! Yeah, I'm really excited about India, I've been saving up to go there for two years at this point. One of my friends who is a major George Harrison fan wants me to bring her back a sitar... but if I find an inexpensive one that will fit in my luggage, that baby's going with me. Never mind that I fail as a musician....

That's awesome! It's good visiting other countries (like England. I've been to Liverpool)I'd love a sitar. If I ever become famous or get rich I'm going to learn how to play. I haven't even found out if I taking guitar classes at my school next year.

I've never listened much John's after-Beatles stuff, but i do naturally recognice the reference^^ And I really like Imagine, that's probably my favorite song if I had to take out all Beatles from my head. Peace and love for all humankind, what's there not to love really.

Liking your black and white stuff^^I've never been really good at that.

John's post-Beatles music is definitely a mixed bag, I'll say that. Double Fantasy is like the sweetest cotton candy, but then I can't listen all the way through John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band without being a crying mess on the floor by the end. But that's what I love about Lennon- he always used his music to convey exactly what he felt at the time he recorded it. And that's what I think makes Imagine such a powerful song- he's not just singing it, he's truly wishing it.

Thank you! I love doing black and white. This was a bit harder, though, as I was working from a real photo.

Well, I guess that john's later work is so loaded with meanings and ideas that some of it at least for me feels a bit heavy to listen just for enjoyment. That's why I think I like Paul's solo work more, it's easier to just tune in and have fun... though, sometimes it is too easy listening that won' stick anywhere in your mind.

Argh, who am I kidding, I listen Ringo more than anyone *fraking love his little solo albums*

I haven't done good black and white in years... I think my last one with really good effort was for my art-diploma in upper secondary... and that's like, three, four ears ago. It seems like you have to pay extra attention to everything when there's no colors to distract the eye xD

I haven't listened to much of Ringo's solo work, but I absolutely adore "It Don't Come Easy".

I suppose that's true. For me the extra difficulty with black and white work is that shading suddenly becomes a thousand times more important.

Y'know, I have a thing for easy-going pop, and that's pretty much what Paul does LOL.

Seriously, it's like fetish how much I like Ringo's solo work. And I like the best those albums that everyone hates. Like Ringo the 4th. Like Oh. My. God. It should make my ears bleed, but instead I get like high from listening to it. Nothing to do with quality of music, it's freaking Ringo, doing stuff that resembles tacky disco OMGOMG.

Yeah, shading is difficult... kinda hate it to be honest xD I mean, I've done so much bad still-life things at school I've never uploaded just because I just can't get myself bothered to do shading in a black and white picture properly. I can't play with colors for weeks, but getting shades right? You wish.
