Perhaps that's where the idea came from..?
I tend to find inspiration in alot of places.. movies, tv shows, games, even just listening to music... usually bgms from games and such..

believe me the idea didn't come from stargate. I never even watched the show at the time and I still don't. In fact I didn't even know what the show was about.

Ah okies... I wasn't trying to imply that it did actually come from there, after all, true information can't come from anyone other than the writer/artist.
It would be the same to say that one might guess the gates in my story, Gate to Atlantis (novel in progress), was inspired by the show Stargate Atlantis, which it wasn't.
To be honest, I'd have to really ponder where the gate idea for my story came from - certainly not Stargate, like yours, and not from your story, either.
Actually the idea came to me long before I even found you on Deviantart..
Must have been... around 2003, I had the idea?
It was born from another story idea I had at the time, and when I altered the original story (which I called Darkstar), the gates and realms ideas were left without a story attached, however I then formed the idea for a comic based on those realms and gates... I even created a music theme for one of the realms!
Gate to Atlantis is based on that comic, only it is also different.
Originally, the gates were basically two standing pillars, and the "doorway" would form between them.
Now the gates are actually simple arches.
Wow I go on.. sorry if I put you to sleep!
Oh and in a nutshell, Stargate is a Sci-Fi about a circular device which creates an artificial wormhole to other planets, so you walk through a stargate say on Earth, and come out another stargate on some other world.
The galaxy is typically seeded with humans, given that their ancestors were snatched from Earth by other humans under the control of parasites in their heads (lovely, isn't it?).
They are more advanced, but in the end the bad guys lose, as always.
Some new baddies show up though, and again, good guys win.
Stargate Atlantis is a spin-off from Stargate SG-1 (the one I just explained), where an international contigent finds the lost city of Atlantis and go there, and inadvertantly awakens a monsterous alien race that actually feeds off humans by sucking the life out of them (Again, lovely, isn't it?).
I'm a pretty big Stargate fan, and is among my top favourites, including MLP, Pokemon and Legend of Zelda.
I don't know if you would enjoy the show, I guess it would have to be your cuppa tea.
And thus ends my lengthy comment.
PS. Keep up the good work!

Quite possibly - like you said, inspiration strikes from all sorts of places and often times, we don't even realize where the idea came from until we sit back and look at it

Yes... but if I had to think seriously about it I would say it did not come from Stargate... I mean, take my story for example, Gate to Atlantis.
Some people have already guessed it was a look-alike of Stargate Atlantis, but it's completely different, the gates in my story... well I can't even remember how I came up with that idea!!
But it's true that even tiny pieces of an idea can be a composite of influences around us..
Thinking about it... no idea I have ever had has been based on Stargate, Pokemon, Zelda, etc... and they are all my top favourites..
But my planned 3rd book in my Gate to Atlantis series, The Pegasus Star, that may have had a teeny influence from MLP.

Completely original ideas usually don't have strong inspiration from outside influence, but sometimes, there's something there that you wouldn't have come up with if you hadn't read a certain book or even author. Nothing that's copyrighted or anything like that, but something about it that stuck with you and wound up stuck in your head.
Ha - I just said (in a complicated way) the exact same thing as you said in the second sentence-paragraph.
I still want to read that series of yours. Get them published soon so that I can buy it

Okies!! I'll do my best!!
Oh ya - y'know one idea for my series was that souls are caught up within an internet network (in a scheme to use those souls of people), and it must be shut down. It is dubbed "Soulnet", and to take it down requires the sacrifice of every mind in it, but with it running, it only hastens the world's plunge to darkness.
All this came to me from two influences:
1. I was listening to a sad sounding music file.
2. My laptop was counting down.
You'd have to wonder how I got that from those two things!!

Wow, sounds like a good idea though - especially if you write it out well.
LOL - laptop counting down = doomsday for the souls on the soulnet. Sad sounding music file = their funeral march?

Pretty much... everyone on the soulnet (which is basically the internet, but taken over for holding minds) has to be sacrificed, otherwise the world basically ends..

Sounds scary and sad all together. Though, what an interesting idea! I'd buy a book or series about that in an instant
