Description I was getting bored of my old plushie base, so I decided to improve it.
On the left is the new base, and on the right is the old one. As you can see, the new one is considerably taller, however it's head is the same size. I included a 30cm ruler in the photo to help show the size (the new base is approximately 33cm).
If you are wondering about the differences in colour, this is just due to them being made using different shades of doll velour.

Some things to note about the new pattern:
It has proper feet (with the old pattern I created feet when I made the shoes).
It has a better neck ~ now scarves will work better, and tops will sit more nicely.
The hands are like mittens ~ ie they have thumbs.
The arms are attached differently (in a way which allows for slight movement).
The legs are now made separate from the body, giving the plushie more shape.
I got a lot of inspiration for my alterations from ~plushabilities ' Nichi 3.0

From now on, I'll be using this pattern for my commissions. This will increase the price a bit as the resulting plush is larger, and these bases take longer to construct. The only base I have left of my old pattern is the one in this photo. Sorry to any of you who prefer the old version.
Anyways, I really hope you guys like my new pattern!

However, sadly there is a catch:
I'm going back to uni the day after tomorrow.
I don't have access to a sewing machine down there.
I normally hand sew the clothes etc on my plushies, but the bases... not so much.
This means that I have between now, and when I leave, to sew up as many bases as I can.
I also have to pack.

Realistically, I only have tonight left to do some sewing. I'll try my absolute hardest to get as many done as I can (this will determine how many commissions I will be able to take in the next 4+ months).
...I get the feeling I won't be getting much sleep tonight.

so, i was wondering if it is possible to buy a copy of the pattern for personal use, i collect plushies, but am unable to afford commissions  , so i started making my one, but haven't been able to find a decent pattern for a human base, yours is just SO amazing! if you are willing to sell the pattern im not picky about prices since it can be used for pretty much any character. also make a few notes on the pattern if possible,  im not that good with patterns yet    please get back to me soon (preferably a personal message)

Sorry for the late reply! I'm glad you like my base/s!! Unfortunately I no longer have these exact patterns (they got lost in the mail) ...but I have since drawn new ones (that are similar/better. It would take me a little while to scan them and make them easy to follow, if you don't mind waiting for this.
I've been asked this in the past, and have responded no. However, as long as you don't use it to sell plushies of your own, and be sure to credit me anywhere you post it (online), I might be okay with it. What are you prepared to pay for it?

How do you do the neck i've been having the hardest time with my plushies and there necks.

FlyingRabbitMonkey In reply to ReikiNoJutsu [2013-03-15 03:28:39 +0000 UTC]

...it all comes down to your pattern, and how you attach the head. For my new pattern, I made it so that the neck was very defined, and nice and long (on the body segment). And when I attached the head, I made sure that a reasonable amount of the neck was still visible underneath.
Hopefully that made sense?

Umm one last wuestion .. sorry for bothering you again.. but any tips on how to do the hair on guys with very Spikey hair...?

FlyingRabbitMonkey In reply to ReikiNoJutsu [2013-03-16 01:24:58 +0000 UTC]

No worries! I don't mind your questions
With hair, it's really just a case of trial and error ~ find as many reference pictures as you can, and work with them as closely as you are able. With really spiky hair, I'd recommend making lots and lots of layers (the more the better). If you want it to be able to stick up on it's own, I'd suggest folding/rolling the felt so that it's able to support itself once you stick it on. You can also attach pieces upside-down (if that makes sense) so that they can support those above it. Finally, for spiky hair, it's generally easier if the pieces you use are slightly bigger (and I also think bigger pieces better suit shorter/spiky hair) ~ thinner pieces tend to fall down more like normal hair, and are better suited for longer haired characters.
For extremely crazy hair, it's sometimes easiest to make a kind of base for the shape of the hair, attach this to the head (make sure it's really secure), and then layer the hair over top.

I hope that answered your question. Sorry for the essay heh

Wow This new base looks AWESOME! So much more realistic than the other one. But I have to admit, I liked the old base too The Emperor stand so majestically on my cupboard and I think that has something to do with his body shape.

Great job!

FlyingRabbitMonkey In reply to Yuki87 [2013-02-15 09:40:58 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much! I can't wait to try this base out
...I know what you mean ~ as simple as my first base is, I was able to make some really cool characters with it!
But don't worry, it definitely won't be the last time I use it. I might make the old base available for commissions/trades in the future if people prefer it (for example, if you would like a plushie matching the Emperor in our next trade).

Yuki87 In reply to FlyingRabbitMonkey [2013-02-15 11:40:36 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome

Aw thank you
Sounds like with me and my large doll base. I also only offer them for trades and commissions (only if you already have one and want a matching one ). That works pretty fine so far.

For our next trade I was thinking about a very very simple OC of mine. The only details are a chain on his belt and his bootlaces ^^ Maybe, if that's okay for you, I would like him made with the new base. But only if that's okay and only if you choose something from me that matches your 'more-work' with the new base. Hope you understand what I mean (my English left me a bit ^^)

FlyingRabbitMonkey In reply to Yuki87 [2013-03-22 22:26:21 +0000 UTC]

...and here I just went and replied to your note, and asked you about our next trade, when I had this message here in my inbox all along ...whoops, sorry about that.

...and I'd be happy to make an OC of yours! Don't worry about making it simple ~ I love details (after the Emperor, you should know this better than most )
Also, with the new base should be fine ~ I understand what you mean about your side of the trade: but I wouldn't know how to make it more fair, unless you have a suggestion?

Yuki87 In reply to FlyingRabbitMonkey [2013-03-23 11:18:20 +0000 UTC]

Don't worry. I oversee thing a lot too Much too often.

I just thought a simple character would be better since the new base you use is much work already plus the character design was simple from the start (summer last year).

Hm....maybe you want to have a reindeer (in whatever color) or something else along with a doll?

FlyingRabbitMonkey In reply to Yuki87 [2013-03-26 06:38:38 +0000 UTC]

That's a nice thought, thank you ...but I really don't mind details ~ it doesn't make all that much of a difference to me in the end. Do you have a few different reference pictures? I think you showed me one a while ago, but I can't remember very well

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Yuki87 In reply to FlyingRabbitMonkey [2013-03-26 13:27:43 +0000 UTC]

Okay Than I will add some small details.

Right now there's still only this one picture but it's very small and his face won't be a good reference. [link] Maybe I can find some reference for his face (since I'm bad at drawing it myself).

Awesome new plush base hon! Liking all the improvements to it. The little feet and cute little mitten hands just gives the plush a little more character! Cannot wait to see what types of plushies ya get from this pattern.

Good luck with getting everything done and good luck with uni!

AnimationGuy In reply to FlyingRabbitMonkey [2013-02-17 13:57:34 +0000 UTC]

well i'v already made a drawing, its like a sort of... voodoo doll? xD

its brown, with claws and sharp teeth With a red chest and eyes.

but we arnt making it like you do, we gotta make it from scratch.
sew 2 pieces of cloth together and stuff it with... stuffing? lol
then sew in/on all the details :3

FlyingRabbitMonkey In reply to AnimationGuy [2013-02-17 20:56:20 +0000 UTC]

It sounds interesting!
...but I'm not sure what you mean, because I make mine from scratch too ~ like, I start with sheets of material, which I draw my pattern onto, cut out, sew together, and then stuff with stuffing. Then I add all my details, be that by sewing clothes, painting stuff, or glueing on the hair. I make everything myself LOL

yeah i can see where the old plush pattern would have problems with something like Suzaku. I'll keep stalking your page until I see you open commissions.
How many of the plush bases did you make on your last night?
and how is Uni going?

Korona-Korm [2013-02-10 05:11:54 +0000 UTC]

Aww, I really did like your old plushie design... That little bit of extra chibi was why I chose the two faces that I did
But I'm looking forward to seeing what you can get done with these new ones, especially as they now have hips I may wind up commissioning (not through this rotation though, I figure I have given you enough of my money ) a female character from you at some stage.
Good luck with Uni friend, hope you do well and keep in touch!~

FlyingRabbitMonkey In reply to Korona-Korm [2013-02-15 09:23:29 +0000 UTC]

I liked it too, it's just that I really wanted to try something different, and with a bit more detail. I can't wait to see how these turn out!
No worries, I really don't expect you to commission me again ~ I'm honored that you've already commissioned me twice!
And I'll definitely try to keep in touch.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Korona-Korm In reply to FlyingRabbitMonkey [2013-02-15 11:36:47 +0000 UTC]

That's fair enough. I hope you bring them back on occasion though, for special one-offs kinda thing. But it's your decision.
Hey, I love them, and for the price (have you set an estimate for the new ones by any chance?) it's good quality for money, as far as I can see, twice is too little.
Whee!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FlyingRabbitMonkey In reply to Korona-Korm [2013-02-15 12:11:26 +0000 UTC]

Don't worry, that's the plan
As for the price for the new base plushies, I'm not entirely sure yet, and am still thinking about it.
It's also a case of "poor student needs money for food" ;A; ...you can probably relate.
I'll announce it at some point anyway.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Korona-Korm In reply to FlyingRabbitMonkey [2013-02-15 12:13:55 +0000 UTC]

Can kinda relate at the moment, but I'm sure that I'm about to launch myself into a world of pain when I finally get to uni proper.
Also, yusss on bringing the old plushies back at times!
Think away!
