Description This is Timcanpy from the manga/anime D.Gray-Man. I have been meaning to do some D.Gray-Man fan art for a while now... I hope this counts! I love how he turned out.
...I think I have overcome my 'fear' of the sewing machine ~ although each individual part was hand sewn together, the majority of the joins were done on the machine. The cross on the front was stuck on with glue because I thought it would look neater. There are pipe-cleaners in his wings and tail, so they are posable. The wings are approximately 15cm long which should give you a basic idea of his size...

I cut the felt this morning, started putting him together mid-afternoon, and finished him before bed

I used *AngelBless 's tips page as a guide - [link]

I hope you like him!

do you take commission for one?

FlyingRabbitMonkey In reply to pandorax249 [2012-09-03 02:47:15 +0000 UTC]

I've never really thought about making these available for commission ...to be honest, if I were to make another one I would do it a bit differently because I think I've improved a lot since I made this Tim here.

With this in mind, yes I suppose I could make Timcanpy's on commission, however I wouldn't be able to do it until next holidays while I'm home and have access to a sewing machine

I hope that answered your question

What did you stuff it with? I stuff my plushies with cotton and the cotton never gets in the small corners like the tips of the wings and other small spaces.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FlyingRabbitMonkey In reply to BanzaiAlchemist [2012-05-24 01:25:04 +0000 UTC]

I use polyester stuffing

To make sure that the stuffing gets in the smaller places, I always stuff those bits first (by breaking off smaller pieces of the stuffing and filling the small areas with as much as I can) before I stuff the larger parts. I use a pencil or something similar to compact it and make sure it reaches the tips/corners, because it's often too difficult to do it with my fingers.

I hope that answered your question

Of course! Sorry for gushing, I just can't get curved seams done well and where they all come together is so smooth, I have a lot of practicing to do, so I'm really really impressed.

No problem at all! ~ I hope you keep practicing then! Good luck for any future projects
...and thank you once again

And I know what you mean. The sewing machine is not my friend.

FlyingRabbitMonkey In reply to SalientGrey [2012-04-26 06:41:17 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!
Yeah ~ I used to always avoid the sewing machine, and did everything by hand instead, but I've had a bit of practice since then

Hahaha! I can see how you made that comparison ~ Patamon actually used to be my favorite in that programme, but although I know I watched Digimon at some stage when I was little, I can't for the life of me remember what actually happened past the very first few episodes (I mustn't have paid much attention...)

...well... there are so many tutorials out there that can help you, and there are a lot of different methods (I've even seen a pattern that doesn't involve any sewing, and uses hot glue instead! LOL )
Play to your strengths, and if you give it a go you might surprise yourself!

... This beats my chainmail... SO CUTE!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FlyingRabbitMonkey In reply to Korona-Korm [2011-12-14 21:04:20 +0000 UTC]

Aww thanks! I'm glad you find him cute (my parents both thought he was weird... but then they don't know where he's from or what he is ).
However, your chainmail requires far more skill, time and patience, which makes it the winner ...I still can't get over how easy this was to make!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Korona-Korm In reply to FlyingRabbitMonkey [2011-12-14 21:08:44 +0000 UTC]

But still, it's Timcanpy! It would make my entire month if someone gave me one of these!
But thankee!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FlyingRabbitMonkey In reply to Korona-Korm [2011-12-14 21:30:40 +0000 UTC]

Haha true ...and I would make you one, but this Timcanpy depleted my yellow felt, pipe-cleaner, and stuffing supply
I think I'll definitely have to get some more materials next time I go into New Plymouth!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Korona-Korm In reply to FlyingRabbitMonkey [2011-12-14 21:33:39 +0000 UTC]

Naww, you don't have to make me one! But thanks!
Oh dear, I hate it when you all of a sudden realise that you are almost out of supplies/ completely out.
Except I have it lucky, because the furthest I have to walk to get more supplies for chainmail is under an hour...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FlyingRabbitMonkey In reply to Korona-Korm [2011-12-14 21:48:36 +0000 UTC]

I know right... I was worried I wouldn't have enough when I was in the middle of making him and the two A4 pieces of yellow felt were very nearly not enough to make him this size, but I was determined and somehow it worked

Yes you do have it lucky ~ not only is New Plymouth waay too far to walk, but I hardly ever go there as it is. Also, when I do go, it's never to the Spotlight (I just happened to go there with a friend the other day). There is a shop in Stratford which is a lot closer and has stuff, but it's more pricey...

Korona-Korm In reply to FlyingRabbitMonkey [2011-12-14 22:03:09 +0000 UTC]

Yay!
Come and live up here. There is a fabric store just down the road almost from me. And the next closest store, a Spotlight, is only a couple of bus rides away, or a short car trip if you have nice friends...

FlyingRabbitMonkey In reply to Korona-Korm [2011-12-14 23:48:46 +0000 UTC]

Wow that would be convenient! ...however I'll be living in the complete opposite direction ~ I'm going to Otago University next year ...lets hope they have a Spotlight (or something like that)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Korona-Korm In reply to FlyingRabbitMonkey [2011-12-14 23:56:06 +0000 UTC]

Ch. Otago. Going to be a Scarfie.
Na, I was actually thinking of going to Otago too, because it is so much nicer to Curl down there, but I'll likely stay up here for the rest of my studies...
I hope so too!

You did an amazing job on this, it looks better than mine! X3 It's great to see Timcanpys that were made using my mini tutorial as reference, I'm so glad it's helping people who want to make their own

FlyingRabbitMonkey In reply to AngelBless [2011-12-14 10:52:19 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much!
...although I'm not so sure about that ...I think yours is amazing!
I had intended to do the wings the same way you have, but then I got a bit carried away with the stuffing, so it didn't end up working ...the hardest part was definitely turning the tail inside out!
Thanks again ~ it was really fun to make
