Description
Something for animation class again! We had to try rotoscoping (you basically trace frame-by-frame over a video clip; or in this case an old Muybridge human walk photo set) and then do something different with it! So I thought I'd do Anise because she's humanish enough. Her legs are like half the length of the original though, lol. It's 12 frames vovI wish I could've spent more time with the mane (this was meant to be an exercise and it took me way too long to work that bit out) but otherwise I'm fairly happy. If I ever have time I'll probably go back and fix her mane up, but I doubt I will.

Thanks! And I'm planning on it, yeah! After I finish uni I'm hopefully going into an animation program.

Oh! I remember that thing! Totally forgot about everything on it because itβs been a while though. I canβt read any of the words on my phone because zooming in makes them fuzzy white lines. Dx

I might need to reupload it or turn on downloads; it's probably broken now bc DA is being stupid with upload sizes XP

It does that with comic pages a lot too, but only if theyβre really long pages.

Yeah, it's an eclipse related bug. I think I fixed it for now though.

The spectrum thing is still blurry on mobile, but I mean itβs mobile so itβs gonna be glitchy and stuff. xP

I donβt know if itβll help but if you want to shorten your work time. You could get a blank sheet/ layers and draw the entire walk cycle on it and use different color pencils for each step. Then just trace over it into different sheets/ layers.
Do you have the animation book though?

I did it partially with symbols because that was part of the assignment - if I were to do this again that'd be how I'd do it though (you can just use onion skins which is basically tracing paper).
I don't have the animation book - I imagine it's something I'll need to get if I continue in animation though.
I really only spent a long time on the mane honestly - I did the motion wrong initially (didn't have a ref), and then wrapping my head around the right way and fixing what I'd already done took so long that I had to stop because it's only a five percent assignment and I've got other work. The cycle besides the mane probably took like 2-3 hours total I think.

What do mean by symbols?Β
Yeah, you can use tracing paper but the only issue about them is that their too thin. If you want to continue 2D animation then, I think that you need to learn about lightboxs. Its like the first and important thing to learn about animation in 2D.
The Animator's Survival Kit is like the bible for animation. In my opinion I suggest you get in hard cover but yeah, if your going to continue in animation.Β
The animation though looks good and the time is roughly the right amount time to spend in a still walk cycle. Just take in consideration about porportation.Β
Sorry for being so rough and detailed about it. It's just that I get very into animation talk >__<Β

I'm gonna do 2D digitally if I ever continue 2D stuff! I need to be able to rotate and edit stuff easily. I know what light boxes are and I know how to use them vov Onion skinning is basically just a digital lightbox.
Yeah, some of the proportional stuff got messy as I was working. I'm still getting used to the software and I feel like I learned a lot from doing it. The only walk cycle animation I've really done before this has been sprited, and it's easier to monitor proportions when they're literally countable in pixels.

oh okay. I honestly didn't know about that type of lightbox. I only know about the box sizes and the old 2d table ones.
Yeah. All it takes to get better is practice. For having this as your first walk cycle, though in a new program it's really good.Β
