Description
This is a Netherdrake, a popular mount in World of Warcraft and one of my all time favs. I have always loved the uniqueness of WoW's iconic shark dragon, they are just adorable.As with all my dolls he is made of upholstery foam with a wire armature inside so he is fully posable. The wings are made out of cotton fabric which I dyed to give a bit of a gradient. I took my second venture into casting resin parts with this doll and after a lot of failing got some kick ass translucent spikes and eyes for the beast.

So it's just colored foam? Looks fantastic. Does the color stick well? Is it durable I mean?

That is correct. The dye 'sticks' very well to the foam but it has a tendency to fade rather dramaticly. The color you see here is the color after he was finished fading he was a LOT darker originally. I had originally wanted to dye him black but my black dye decided it wanted to be dark purple instead and in the end the lighter purple color you see in the pictures. Really you just have to prepare for the fading and dye darker then the color you actually want and the fading actually gives them a bit more natural look in the end anyway.Β
As for durability, its as durable as any sponge. They will tear if abused but hold up to reasonable posing and 'play' well. I still have the first doll I made, its years later and he's held up very good.

The wings were a bit of a structural nightmare to figure out how to keep their form. Next time I'll use felt and they will be even better!
