That was a VERY cold day in the late 1980's when I took that one in northern New Jersey, up near the Delaware Water Gap. It's a rock face that was exposed when they put in Interstate 80 years ago.

Awesome! We had a cold winter last year and the lake in town froze over, it was cool. Theres a photo in my gallery of my boyfriend standing on the frozen lake.

We had record setting snow. Third (if I remember correctly) snowiest winter on record. Can't wait for warmer weather.

Thanks. I tweaked it a bit in Photoshop but the original negative is fairly contrasty.

Ooh, fantastic shot. It looks like the ice is gradually creeping out of the rocks. It's kind of scary, actually!

focallength In reply to ladyjazzkiller [2008-01-24 04:57:21 +0000 UTC]

That's not too far from the truth. As the water flows down the rocks, it freezes and the water builds up over time.

Right! It does seem kind of nightmarish to me for some weird reason...but oh well. Leave it to me to find the scariness in things!

You see a lot of this where they cut through rock to put in highways. The rock is very porous and the water seeps through and runs out the side.

Yeah. I got new scanner software so I was finally able to scan it in properly. The old software couldn't do it right for some reason.

So it's like going from MS Paint to Photoshop, right?

focallength In reply to 426maxwedgie [2008-01-25 02:47:28 +0000 UTC]

I suppose so. I've never used MS Paint but I've used some other MS stuff so I guess that's a good analogy.

426maxwedgie In reply to focallength [2008-01-25 02:52:04 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. You can do so much in Photoshop that even the people who made it don't know the full extent of it's capabilities.

That's why there's so many books on it. The interesting thing is that it started out as file sharing software at ILM. Their workstations saved stuff in different formats so they needed something so they could move stuff from place to place. Lucas sold it to Adobe for (I think) $10 million back in 1989 or 1990 and Adobe used it as the basis for Photoshop. That's why there are so many format choices when you go to save something. I've been using Photoshop since Photoshop 2 back in the early '90's.
