Description The lighting was not in my favor, but I still managed to get it to smile nicely for the camera.

A gorgeous ferruginous hawk. This is the largest hawk here in America

Edit: Image has been edited to adjust contrast and add some color to the sky to break up the white.

A nice capture, but it might look better with some post processing.  Just IMHO.  ^_^

I lightened it up a bit and did some minor sharpening. Outside that, doing processing is a weakness of mine and not something I have much experience with.

Do you have any suggestions for this one? I have Photoshop CS5 I think.

Up the contrast a tad, increase the color saturation and then drop in a light blue sky.  I tweak almost all of my photos, but i try to do so in a way that doesn't make it scream "Manipulation".  I I want to do that, then I really pull out the stops and it's obvious.  Sort of like the difference between photo-realism and cubism on painting.  ^_*

Will see what I can do. If it's worthy of a repost I'll do it

What's the best way to get the sky blue? Selecting the area and adjusting color?

Either way is fine.  If you select the color, you have to fine tune it to select the edge boundary as well as the sky, otherwise you get a fuzzy white outline. I have a  selection of stock skies, with and with out clouds, I use to drop in a separate layer, then erase the original, washed out sky.   I use GIMP, a much simpler program.  ^_*
