I see you have this marked for maturity for homosexual content. DA does not classify homosexuality as mature content. Homosexuality, in of itself, is not harmful to youth.
It becomes mature contents when it depicts nudity or implies sexual acts, etc.
If every work of art on DA that had anything to do with homosexuality was marked as adult, then no youth under age 18 would ever be able to see or read anything about homosexuality, as if homosexuality were something bad or dirty.
I dropped by to link this to a young gay artist to illustrate your line and shading technique, but he will not even be able to see it. So I am hoping you will remove the adult tag, as it is not required under DA Policy. I can give you a link to the policy statements if wish.
All the Best,
Matthew

Yes references do help, but it is the artists interpretation where the art is. Tchaikovsky's symphonies are played on a regular basis, but it is the artistry of the conductor who brings it alive with his or her own interpretation, making it something new every time it is played, especially between conductors. Conductors are Superstars for a reason.
Photo composites and photo manipulations are new masterpieces, but hardly original. I am not one one to say art that is not absolutely original is somehow less. I have seen artist even complain here "that idea/concept has been done before" like that is a bad this. Like who cares.
Art is about creativity. We use tools to create. A live model is a tool. A photo reference is a tool. a pencil is a tool. The artist uses tools to create something his or hers, each unique to that artist, even if it os of the same exact live model, or the same exact reference material. It is all about what you did with your tools.
So that is a long argument, and you know I am verbose, to say that to me the listener, viewer, taster, smeller of your work, which tools you used to give me this sensory delight, matter not. I am most happy to sit back and enjoy.
CHEERS!

This is lovely.
It looks really natural or something. Like I can feel their chemistry, even though it's just a drawing.
Well done.

my style? *looks around* MY style? First of all I didn't even know I had a style, and least of all that it was elegant XD What picture of mine made you think of it as elegant?

fongmingyun In reply to DianaACastle [2008-01-27 16:14:23 +0000 UTC]
You have a style - it's partially in the type of girls you draw - girls with open faces, small mouths, large eyes in unassuming poses- and in the way you shade, it's very graphic, focused on color choice rather than the shading of those colors. I'm a fan of simplicity. It's just something I can't do.

DianaACastle In reply to fongmingyun [2008-01-27 16:40:52 +0000 UTC]
That's probably one of the nicest compliments I've ever received thank you. I never really thought about whether I had a style or not, since I sometimes draw things differently depending on the circumstances. Ex. Someone's character strikes me as being more realistic than anime-ish and I'll usually draw them somewhere in between: anime proportions but realistic facial expression or the like
But I guess I like your style too. You say you can't do simplicity but this picture itself is a very simple picture. Sure, it has details, but those details don't overcrowd the picture. It's the exact opposite in fact, I think they balance out the simple whites and negative spaces in the picture : )

It's in my gallery and I wanted to give you credit for the guy in it because I saw this pose and used it sorta..it's tweaked and stuff, but I wanted t give you credit but I didn't remember the name or anything. :S Lol, but hey if you want to see it it's called "Edward and Bella - Almost There" so just go to my gallery! I hope you like it and allow me to keep it..lol because I worked really hard. Haha! Great picture, really I like it.

Its more than an image; to my semi-adopted child it is hope that although he is different some of the world will understand that he feels attacted to those who are like him.
For presenting hope and beauty in a kiss; thank you for all the boys in the world who feel different.

Just lovely. I really like the tenderness you captured in their embraceThe contrast between them is great too, light hair and dark hair, earth and sky. The details in their clothes and Rivek Ailinar's? scar is so well done too. Just an all over brilliant picture. I'm going to add it to my favorites

Your welcome . I often find that even if you use a reference to help with a piece, the subjects of the piece always seem to come out unique to the first reference. The writing that accompanies the piece is gorgeous
. I could have kept reading and reading about the characters and the world they live in, you write very elegantly. I was just wondering, are you writing a continuing story about these characters, or are you writing pieces of their story? This piece drawing and writing is so inspiring.

These are just pieces of a longer story. There's more of it in my gallery, actually. Any piece with these two characters has a story included.
Evenaully, I plan on releasing an artbook with more of these exceprts, and when I get (considerably) older, the novel itself.

That is really cool. I'll make sure to look for other pictures of these characters and read the excerpts:wink:. I wish you best of luck with the art book, that sounds brilliant a whole collection of your lovely art and writing, very nice. Best of luck with the novel too, writing novels is great fun. take care.
